Tickets are available two days in advance but only in person. Visit the Mesa Verde NP website. It is clearly stated how to purchase tickets for ranger-led tours. These are purchased at the Visitor Center inside the entrance into the park.
By the way, this is a completely outdated system for people who come from a long was away, for a day visit. Makes it impossible to get a tour.

They take quite a few groups of large people going through the day, just look up when they are giving yours and you can get in one of the groups
