The whole park is absolutely beautiful. If you have time, driving down to the historical ghost town of Thurmond is incredible. Beautiful railroad town with a few well preserved old buildings that used to be a central hub for the area

America‘s newest national park at the time of this review. Truly a beautiful part of the country. We spent a week here kayaking with our local scout troop. Great places to pull out of the river and camp. On the upper new river there are Class I, II, and III rapids. On the lower river are Class IV and V. Cocktail party trivia? The New River is one of only a few in North America to flow south to north!

Some may not agree with the “National Park” status, but it was already a National River and Preserve. There is more to the park than just the bridge, however the bridge is a beautiful focal point. I did the Bridge Walk tour and it was amazing! We also enjoyed the Fayetteville Station Road with audio tour, Sandstone Falls/Visitors Center. White Water Rafting looked awesome, but we didn’t have time to do that on this trip. Enjoy the park for the beauty of nature and the gorge in the East and you will have a good trip.

We visited Thurmond, and it was amazing! Many of the homes appear to be in arrested decay, but you can still pick out architectural details. The museum in the old train station was fun and informative! We enjoyed being able to explore at our own pace, and the views were breathtaking!

Yes there are. You just have to know the area. Thurmond, go up river n cross the bridge to river right n about half mile north there's a huge sand bar
Yes depending what area at what area of the gorge you are going state parks and private campgounds that are all along gorge
Ace Adventure offers a tour for walking the catwalk. But Bridgeday is the only day pedestrians are allowed on the bridge.
Yes

A great book that discusses the New River is Far Appalachia.
What do you mean by best? The park is quite large north to south so the area is big. The campground just north of Sandstone Visitors' Center is pretty nice but has limited amenities however it is free. In my book free is best. Tamarack is just west of there, also free but noisy.
Summersville, Hawk's nest, Bluestone Lake's nearby for boating. There is river access below the bridge but don't think you would want to put a boat in there.
If you're referring to Bridge Day then no, that's been canceled this year.
Yes; but they can be dangerous. Current is strong in places.
If you do not have babies or elderly.. i highly recommend anytime of year stopping for at least an hour in this area. It is so gorgeous different times of day and even a rainy winter's day can create for you a very majestic experience.
Zynayah. Yes but tou gave to go down in the Gorge to see themJoan. Yes there are. In the Gorge.
yep pull off and walk that's what I did
Yes but u better know the river well if going alone. If not hire a guide. Lots of undercut rocks n depending on water levels can be very dangerous.
ACE Whitewater is a few miles from the actual bridge. The bridge is north on US 19 and ACE is in Oak Hill off US 19.
Saturday, October 21st! Search for the Bridge Day Website for a full event schedule and different opportunities available.
