I bought Black Diamond (Trail Flicklock, electric blue, built for all year, 3 types of trails) at REI. I became an avid hiker with them...hiking about 30-50 trails last summer, average 10miles one way on popular moderate trails. (Pacific Trail, ect.) They are also great tent poles. I have plates, graft in right leg, so trust me when I say I feel absolutely a great investment I made.

Try th carbon poles. Usually the REI brand ones stay sturdy for a year or two. If you are gonna use it primarily for hiking, it should last longer. Carbon poles are usually flexible to some extent so if you are going on clumpsy roots or crossing a flowing stream you might want to upgrade to better ones
