I love this place. Plenty of birds to watch and easy trails. We walked most of them and put in 5 miles.

Newly relocated and remodeled entrance and parking lot. Restrooms are available in the parking area. Many hiking options on the elevated, graveled trail system. Peaceful. Beautiful. Your hike will be filled with the sound of birds. We saw osprey, hawks, egrets, herons, deer, turtles, and countless species of other birds.

The new trail was a deathtrap of Mosquitoes. Most miserable walk ever. I’m sad because I loved the old trail :( did see some baby nutria on a quick break when not swarmed by mosquitoes.

The refuge has been finished restoration after closed two years. From highway 14 entrance, it has auto gate, but Captain William Clark Park entrance does not have a gate. Both entrances need to walk least half miles to reach the refuge.

I have no experience with wheelchairs, but it's a crushed gravel. I wouldn't think it would be good for wheelchairs, but the path is pretty consistent, so if you go and visit you'll get an idea of what you're in for pretty quick. As far as no turnarounds, there is one branch of the path marked as such, but if you got that far I'm sure turning around wouldn't be an issue.
It's open now as of May 1 2022
It is closed until at least April, 2022. The construction includes removing some of the Columbia River dike and allowing a creek to flow into the Columbia. Prolific "grading" of the area is discussed in the construction plan. Given that its supposed to be a Wildlife Refuge, bulldozing and grading might sound odd. However, Steigerwald Lake is largely silted in and the entire Columbia watershed is far from natural. I'm looking forward to seeing the results. I hope I fairly discussed this question which remained unanswered too long..
The refuge currently is only open from 6am to 8:30pm. If you want to go earlier you can access the trails at the refuge from the levy or east dike trail. You can get here from any of the captain William clark park trails. The bathrooms are locked until 6 or 7am though.
Not bad enough for bug spray! Definitely not a concern.
No you may not collect or forage. It is there to protect the wildlife, its ecostructure, and a safe haven for animals. No jogging, music, biking, dogs, loud noises, horse back riding or hunting. It is federal land under the protection of the US Fish and Wildlife.
Parking is free. Don't know if it's open all 7 days
I agree with the first answer that this trail has a lot of sun. There is one area at the begging where you could sit, but then there are not benches that I can remember.
It's a gravel trail, so if it's a durable scooter than yes, but make sure it makes little to no noise.
Right now, I was just there. Some areas are blocked off until april 30th, but the geese, ducks, osprey, etc are all over right now. It's actually pretty loud towards the lake.
No, pets aren't allowed in the refuge.
