Nice docks, nice beaches, great camping and billions of mosquitoes and they are hungry. Repellent was worthless and we ran for the boat.

Went camping missing camp fires but still so awesome. Even got to see some endangered Columbia white-tailed doe with her baby. 😁

Find yourself a spot on the dock, crack a cold one, and enjoy views of sunsets, Mt. Hood, and my favorite, the traffic on the I-205 bridge at rush hour.

Great place to boat for the day or spend a few nights camping. Equipped with two out houses cleaned daily by park Rangers.

Most definitely. I have seen kayaks out there at government island by the park and all that so go for it.
Pack your boat well, maybe a skiff or two as well and don't forget the insect repellent!!! No phones, no office and no valet. This is about as rough as camping gets. In the city.
I'm not sure it had one. It's been gov. Is. Since 1850
Contrary to Finally Alive's review, citing the west end as one of the best spots, its actually those spots rarely visited that make the island so special. On the north side of the island, just west of the I-205 bridge is a semi secluded cove that fades to a puddle later in the summer. My personal favorite, however is at the eastern end of the island nestled on one of the beaches in the channel between Govt. and Maguire islands. The breakwater that difuses the rivers strong currents giving the area a more lake type atmosphere. Few boats wander into the area making it one of the most serene camping areas youll find inside a city limit, anywhete!
