I could've spent the whole day there.. What an incredible experience! There is so much more to this museum than I expected. Well worth the $8 entry fee

It was fantastic! Though some of Oregon's history is brutal and upsetting, this museum is very intriguing. I will definitely go back, especially since we were there 2 hours and only got through one level.

Amazing museum! I had very good time there and learned a lot about the state!

Great museum (I’m from LA and I’m still impressed!). Love the temporary exhibition on the suffragettes - wish it were permanent and if it included a footnote on the ERA that would be stellar. The permanent exhibition upstairs was amaaaazing and the gift shop is tiny but mighty! Very happy I stopped by - I came by twice between work breaks for ample time to really stroll and absorb the great exhibits. A great stop if you’re in town. Parking wasn’t too bad either. That was surprising.

Currently our admission is discounted to $5 due to the closure of our permanent exhibit - however, once our new permanent Oregon history exhibit, Experience Oregon, opens on February 14, admission will return to $11 for adults, $9 for seniors / students, $5 for youth 6-18. We are free for children 5 and under, members, and residents of Multnomah County.
Our House, Building, and Land History page in the Research Help section of our website can help get you started: https://ohs.org/research-and-library/research-help/house-building-and-land-history.cfm
Google Maps' Get Directions feature is probably the best way to figure that out. The biggest limitation may be that WES only runs during rush hours, so the next train to Beaverton today doesn't leave until 3:28pm. If you caught that train, you could transfer to MAX in Beaverton, get off in Downtown Portland, and then we're only a 6 minute walk. Total travel time would be 1 hour and 4 minutes, but unfortunately we close at 5 pm. Another option (depending on schedules) might be to take Amtrak from Salem. From Portland's Union Station, you can catch either the Green or Orange MAX lines and get off 3 blocks from us.
Are the artifacts relevant to the city of Troutdale? Do you have pictures? If yes contact THS in Troutdale.
Hi Astrid! Thank you for your questions - can you be more specific in terms of donations (monetary vs. donations to our museum or research library)? Thank you!
Hi Dennis! This is not something that would be within our collecting scope - but perhaps you are hoping this would be considered a historic landmark? If so, depending on where it is located, you can contact the Historic Landmark Commission for that area.
Hi Becky! Our museum is indeed free to visit every day if you are an OHS member or a resident of Multnomah County, thanks to our 2016 levy. If you live outside of the county, admission is $10, $8 for seniors, students, and teachers, $5 for youth 6-18, and free for children 5 and under. Our research library is free to visit every day, regardless of where you live! Hope to see you soon!

Hi Karla! Here is a list of recommended appraisers we have on our website: https://ohs.org/support/upload/Appraisers-and-Conservators_2018-09-18.pdf Good luck!
Hi Tim! It is an 1835 American copper penny - you can read the full history on our Oregon Encyclopedia! https://oregonencyclopedia.org/articles/portland_penny/#.W4_wnlVKiUk
In my opinion, it greatly varies. Between the Racing to Change and OSU exhibits, you could comfortably spend an hour in each. You could also peruse every exhibit in an hour. Finally, the flagship exhibit on Oregon's specific history is closed for rennovation until Feb '19. In sum, it really depends on how your group usually moves through any museum. Do you read every detail available, or do you focus on a few points before moving on.

I didn't see any postings forbidding cameras, I would avoid flash photography, it may not be explicitly forbidden now, but if too many people use flash photograph, the next thing you know no one will be allowed to photograph at all.
Admission is always free to residents of Multnomah County. On occasion, an event promotes free admission to the public, like this past MLK day or Veteran's day.
