Is it fairly easy 4 a handicap person to navigate?..if they decide to use their crutches & not wheel chair or scooter

David Blake | Nov 7, 2019
brian vessel | Nov 7, 2019

Yes it is easy for a handicap person to navigate. There is a lot of walking depending on what festivities you're doing, so using crutches can be a bit much. I recommend taking frequent breaks if you're deciding to use crutches.

I noticed that in your photo captures of November 2016 one features the 31 star flag that was donated to your museum by a family member Emily Preston, now deceased. Is this the flag or a copy and how might I attain a photo copy?

Jim Martinez | Nov 7, 2018
Virginia Museum of History & Culture | Nov 7, 2019

Hi, Jim! Great question! I believe the flag you are referring to is the original flag, but to double check you might want to fill out our online Ask a Question form. This form is sent to our research librarians and collections team. They will be able to help you determine if the flag one display is the one that was donated by Emily Preston and they should also be able to help you with a photo of the flag!

Does military get in free? How strictly is the suggested donation enforced?

Victoria O'Tool | Jul 9, 2022
Virginia Museum of History & Culture | Jul 9, 2022

Victoria - With the reopening of our newly renovated museum, admission is no longer suggested. Rates are $10 for adults, $8 for Seniors, Active Military and Veterans, $5 for Youth ages 6-17. VMHC members get in free. I apologize if the Google listing still has suggested admission language. We will update that immediately. Also, to ensure everyone has access to a quality museum learning experience, we participate in a national program called Museums for All to offer free admission for low-income families. Guests who present their SNAP or WIC Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) Card at the Guest Services desk receive free admission. I hope this information is helpful!
