On my way leaving out the mall, ChildFund International representative John stopped me to talk about the company he works for. Let's just say I left sponsoring a little girl!!!! Can't wait to see how my contributions have a positive impact on this little ones life!!

When I first decided to sponsor a little girl in India, I was a bit skeptical about whether or not it would really make a difference in her life. I'm so glad I pushed through the doubts. In the past 3 years or so, I have gotten to know her and her family so well. Turns out that we actually have a lot in common - for starters, our love of poetry, the color red and taking showers in the rain! Her letters are a ray of sunshine in my inbox every time they arrive, and I really have gotten to see her grow and see the impact I'm making in her life firsthand, especially on the education front. She was struggling in school before, but now she's receiving specialized tutoring through ChildFund, and it's improved her grades. I think my favorite part about being a sponsor is that I can send monetary gifts, and she and the family get 100 percent. I sent her some birthday money right before the COVID-19 crisis started last year, and a few months later, she sent me a photo back of her standing at a table, surrounded by all the food they used it to buy. That food got them through the lockdown and helped them survive. I keep that photo on my fridge because it's such an awesome reminder that a little bit of my time and effort CAN make a difference - literally, even the difference between having nothing and having enough. Since then I've sponsored a second child (a boy in Uganda this time). I want my own kiddo to understand the importance of appreciating what we have and connecting to those who outwardly seem to be different from us. We all really do have a lot more in common than we think, and if my own child were struggling, I would hope someone would do the same for us. Hopefully, one day we can visit both my sponsored children and bring that connection full circle. Until then, I'll have to be content with photos on the fridge and letters that make my whole day. :)
