Beautiful Zen ambience to hike, walk, cabins, kayak and other activities around the Park 😊

Beautiful park along the James River located in Powhatan County VA. Went for a night nature hike with the kids and they absolutely loved it. Good walking trails along the river and camping sites are available. Playground and restrooms are available.

Fabulous. RV camped at this state park for a few days and it was a wonderful experience. Flat sites, easy hook ups, great well-maintained trails, pristine bathroom facilities. This is a high value state park.

They have multi-use trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
You can get a licenses at Walmart. It you are on disability you can get a lifetim license from the fishories web site
We don't lock the gate. You need a reservation and we enforce quiet time after 10 p.m.
At the park, no (at none of the Virginia State Parks). You might try the National Forests in Virginia.
Yes! Dogs must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet and under the owner's control at all times. Guests are also expected to pick up dog waste and dispose in trash containers.
No shuttle. However I have done this solo on a kayak. I left my bike locked to a tree at the maidens landing site. I paddled down river and biked back. It's about five miles down river and also five miles back on bike. Very doable and makes for a good paddle peddle mix. Tubes would work just fine too.
No change
Probably no Paved trails. River trail, starting at Picnic Shelter 3 - canoe launch C, is probably power chair accessible for maybe one mile. Cabin trail and big woods trails are bare soil and probably accessible. Definitely worth checking them out.
It is on the James River. Not a lot of access unless you have a boat
There's remote camping that is close to the river, but not actual water front
Yes. Reservations can be made at reserve America. Its $35/night. Electric and water only, no sewer hookup, but there is a dump station at the park.
This company works out of the park: https://www.maidenvoyageoutfitters.com/
Yes, we have 3. Check our website and the trail guide there for locations. They are all slide launches.
The topography is difficult - the River is mostly not at ground level with bluffs common.
You can stargaze at nearby Tucker Park in Goochland
Yes, the bathroom with plumbing is handicap accessible and the parking has marked parking
Not positive what you mean. If you mean we leave sites open for walk-ins the answer is No. Of course if sites are not reserved we will let folks rent them when they arrive. There has been very little availability that way because of the popularity of camping even during the week. We accept same day reservations until 2 p.m. so I highly recommend taking advantage of that. If you mean can you choose which site you get when you arrive with a reservation the answer is no there as well. This park is all site specific reservations.
Yes
Yes we have both a full service campground and primitive camping. We have 2.5 miles of James River waterfront but fishing access to the riverbank is limited because of high bluffs.
Outlets accept 20, 30 and 50-amp current. I do know you can plug in a normal household appliances because folks without RVs can use the pedestal for fans and other electrical items. To be sure call the park and they may be able to help you with what adapter you might need. 804-598-7148
Yes, or if you are asking which state is Powhatan State Park in, that would be Virginia.
No there is not. Hand pump recomended
We don't have cabins at this park. We do have yurts (no electricity and you use the campground bathhouse - we are working on adding the electricity). We have cabins at nearby Bear Creek Lake State Park (Cumberland). The fees are here: https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/document/feescabins.pdf
Yes, they have a campground with water and electric hookups. They also have yurts available.
No, not in any of our State Parks. We fall under the protection of the Virginia Antiquities Act.
We close the first Monday in December and open the first Friday in March. There are some exceptions like our primitive campsites - Powhatan has some of those. The developed campground at Pocahontas is also open year round along with those at Shenandoah River, Douthat and Hungry Mother.
The roads in the park are considered state routes but skateboarding (and by extension, long boarding), would be allowed on roads with a speed limit of 25 or less which is what our roads are.
Depends on where you are. There is a link to the Google map right where you posted this question. Click on that and you can do driving directions that will tell you how far away it is.
You should be able to. Call the park and discuss with them what your plans are so they can determine whether the event will require a special use permit.
However there is a long stretch that begins and end in the parks parameters that you could bring your own float device.
There are no designated swim areas. If you canoe you could certainly jump out, but the current varies greatly. Be very careful!
I know that entry to VA State Parks is included for camping and cabins. I'm sure that applies to yurts as well. There is no lake but one side of the Park is along the James River - probably not useful for swimming but fishing is fine.
We can only enforce state law which prohibits smoking in public buildings and state offices and withnin 25 feet of the access to those. Smoking is allowed in open areas but debris should be disposed of properly.
