I made my appointment as soon as i finished and passed the written section. One week wait. If you've already taken the written exam, you may be able to just call but I'm sure there is probably something that needs a signature and verification.

Go to the DPS web site, print the renewal form, fill it out. Make a appointment, I would advise by phone on the day you can visit. Wednesday, Thursday are best. Bring your old license or passport or both. That should do it.
