Love this place. One of few places within a 3 hour drive of Chicago where you can backpack. Last time I went I was able to book my site ahead of time online but had to book with the state forest employee on arrival this time. He was a nice guy.

We visit the park once a year, always it's a good and relaxing experience.. be prepared with bug spray.. the pine campground it's nice and quiet.

It is a state forest. You can camp, hike, hunt, ride horses., and cookout. Can not buy sand there as far as I know. Also their is a fish hatchery there.dont know if they still do tours but I believe they still do.
