Very cool and laid-back experience. If your lucky you will see lots of Elk and Bisen just roaming around and sometimes right next to your car

Loved seeing the bison and elk. We saw several bull elk by themselves and the herd of cows all together. The bison were moving through the woods near the exit of the bison area and by the time we got back around they had migrated to near the entrance of the area in the field, grazing. What an experience!

Great visit able to see live Buffalo and Elk very close to car.

Yes, only in the main are and the elk area but not the bison area because it's too dangerous and they want you to stay in a car when going through there.
Yes. But you should know there are large wild animals here. They may get close and that is dangerous.
Park is open and the 3 mile hike is great.
There is no charge, but there is a donation box at the entrance.
I don't think it closes as well. I was wondering about mastodon state park. I want to go for a hike on Christmas.
I'm gonna say there are pinecones...but since it's a state park I don't think you're supposed to remove them.
Is that protected under freedom of speech even if it's elk speech? The park is run by the St Louis county parks Dept. They would be the ones to ask.
No, motorcycles are not allowed at Lone Elk Park.
Yes. They do but I always have taken a grill brush and scrubbed the gill before using. They are pretty nasty.
Yes Park Hours The park officially opens at 7 a.m. in the summer and 8 a.m. in the winter. However, the gates are physically opened and the public is free to enter by 6:30-7 a.m. year round. The park closes at sunset.
No, due to the unique nature of this park where large mammals (bison and elk) roam freely along roadways the department has determined that motorcycles can disturb the wildlife unnecessarily. Thank you for asking, Rick!
No, you can not take sheds from the park.
Per the St Louis County parks page: "Domestic animals are not allowed, even if confined in a vehicle." Dogs are not allowed in the car nor on a leash. The entire park is full of wild elk, deer and other wildlife along with the bison in the bison area. It presents a danger to bring a domestic animal.
Yes, its a great place to go for fall colors. Just be sure you stay in your car around the Elk, as it is Elk mating season.
I just left there, and all of the roads were clear except the Elk Hollow Road behind the lake. I saw the bison, lots of female elk, a few deer, geese and turkey. I didn't see any of the big boys (male elk ) Gorgeous day!
A park ranger they are the ones that Patrol the area in the park
Yes, delayed open on 4/5/21. Website says they plan to open by 9AM
I dont see why not
It can be as long or short as you'd like. If you don't go through all the different parts it can be 15 minutes but it can also take an hour if the bison or elk decide to block the road which has happened to me a few times especially since it's elk mating season they are out more right now. Definitely worth the drive through though!
Yes until sunset
They do have tables and some Bar-b-que pits. Last week the pavilions were taped off. If you go the restrooms were also closed last week.
Yes regular hours to drive thru. My ol man works there.
No, it's inside the park by the visitor center. You can access the Chubb Trail from outside the park though.
Yes, there are several options of trails
Yes it is open every day

Yes I believe you do😊
You would have to make a reservation. Please call 314-615-4386 to get more details!
7:00am until sunset in the Summer, and 8:00am to sunset in the winter.
Elk gave r great show while I was there my grandbabies we're wooowed!!!😲😳🤯
The bison are always there...just not always visable. This being as close to natural as possible, going before 10am will normally give a glimpse. They've woken up and just milling around and such
Old times beach down 44, called route 66 park
Pretty cool. I know there are coyotes in the area but shouldn't be in the park. Size of a medium dog. Very rare for a wolf to be in Missouri but not unheard of. I know of the endangered wolf sanctuary 2 miles away. Maybe they had a wolf escape?
Briana, domestic pets are not allowed at Lone Elk Park, not even confined to a car.
There are grills in various places.
Approx 45 mins
You can walk, ride a bike or a horse! Keep in mind it is a rocky trail.
