Beautiful, well-maintained park. Friendly rangers. No wifi except near a few public spots like the park office. Many hiking options. Miller farmstead was closed to public all day for junior ranger camp. 2nd trip was in the fall. Lots of foliage to see. Brown trout in Doe river near Visitor's center.

Booked the facilities for a wedding. BEAUTIFUL ! Rented the conference center for the reception, cabins for the wedding party and the family, and the overlook for the ceremony. Couldn't have asked for a more beautiful setting and the park staff was beyond great.

Absolutely gorgeous place to visit. The hiking trails will leave you breathless (literally, but mainly from the views). We camped here overnight and were blessed with the most amazing sunset and sunrise. Such an incredible experience. Highly recommend!

Oct 19th 2022 snow flurries for one hour in the afternoon that turned into tiny soft sleet balls. Beautiful! Free to drive through park.

Laurel Falls in Hampton TN is only a short drive away and is a great hike. I do not know what waterfalls may be in the Roan Mountain SP though. I'm not saying there are not any.
U sure can not found anything worth anything but sometime very pretty or interesting rocks found.
$15-$32, varies with sites. Tent only sites are $15. You can go to their website and choose a site and it'll have the amount listed.
On the AT I'm pretty sure that you can camp along the trail as long as its not marked "no camping". Which would be around tourist attractions. If you want detailed information you can call the visitors center.
Usually in the week, it is not too busy. The weekend is a different story. So depending on which days you are going to be there,I would say a couple of weeks ahead should be fine.
I would have to agree on hit or miss. You can get service at the office or with hollering distance from the office.
I can tell you the road was closed when I went there 2 weeks ago. I hiked up to Roan high knob parking lot from Carvers Gap parking lot and decided to take the road back down. Didn't notice anything wrong with the road other than the gates being shut of course. The road is asphalt not gravel.
No Rangers frown upon that. Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints
Yes Bernie you are correct I think there are at least 10 sites that could accommodate a 45 ft and I know that there are 3 for sure I live 2 miles from the state park!
Mid to late June depending on what the weather has done.
It was open when I was there a month ago. I believe it is only closed for winter.
No
I am not sure.
Not as long as you have a good engine for strong climb. Road is paved or smooth gravel including the road that goes on up from carvers gap. But check with park office because the gate is closed quite often too for that upper part. Though, if it is you can Still walk up it.
Pay minimal to camp
Hi Winston! We had 75 at ours. We had our reunion across from the ranger station. There is a game room and a kitchen. Pro tip - have the young ones check out the owls. Awesome place!
On and off WiFi connection throughout the Campgrounds, not sure about the air tv channels.
Time away from the city, time with family and friends. Cabins for rent, numerous mild intermediate trails to hike. Economy is reasonable. Highly recommend 12/10
One of the best state parks for camping and hiking you can find.
Fee's are only for camping.
thanks! We have three grandsons who all use electric scooters. We understand the lower loop is probably safer for them.
The AT does NOT run through Roan Mountain State Park. You go through and past the park approximately 10 miles until you reach Carver's Gap at the top of Roan Mountain. The AT crosses the top of the Roan there at Carver's Gap.
There is no admission fee to Roan Mountain State Park nor is there any charge for parking.
There is an outdoor pavilion area with bench seats. My neice was married there. I'm sure there was a rental fee, but it was nice and easy to use
It is better if it is cold so that you snuggle up with each other to stay warm.
Not anything that hasn't already been cleared up. Looks beautiful as always!
Depending on your camper size, normally you can fit at least 1 car. Some of the smaller sites may be a tight fit. We can usually fit 3 cars when we camp.
No but there is a waste station at the site. There is water hook-ups and wifi at the park
5 mph yes they great tent sites better make a reservation or you want get a site
Check-in time for camping is 4:00 pm. Check-out time is 12:00 pm. If the site had not been used the previous day and is ready to go you are sometimes allowed to check in earlier.
I have been up to the top many times and never paid a fee. TN 143 is a state road that passes through the park and takes you into NC. Therefore, you can drive it anytime, day or night. At the top of the mountain are several parking areas. You can hike up through the Rhododendren Gardens to the Appalachian Trail. There are no toll gates.
They have wall heaters in the bedrooms. All of them have a fireplace in the living room and wood on the porch and or out by the trashcans. A little labor is required but all in good fun. The cabin grounds are quite majestic and the cabins are very cozy.
Yes ,very beautiful,& peaceful place to go.😀
Roan Mountain State Park has Halloween in the Campground on Oct 28th between 6pm & 9pm
