hi please see the procedure 1) Lodge police complaint at the county in which passport is lost. 2) it can be done by going to local police station or submitting it online with the help - by calling 911, they will tell the county website. 3) once complaint is confirmed through online or physically. 4) Write down all the papers in case of minors or self case. 5) Notarized document is must from United parcel service, they take between $2-$20 depending upon the type of document and area. 6) passport size photo -4 minimum. 7) contact nearest jurisdiction consulate. when I went to embassy in Atlanta, there was someone who was asking for procedure to renew his passport. They were not allowing any person appointments. So they asked to courier all the documents. Good to call the embassy before doing so.

I went in person and asked the same question. They asked me to mail the documents bjt also told me to go to FedEx or UPS and notarize my signature before sending the documents via email. I didnt understand why I would need the embassy if I notarize my documenrs at UPS. I checked at UPS and it was easy to get notary done.

I went 2 weeks ago and they didn't accept any in person appointments other than emergency visa applications.

I understand that there is website where you fill the info and get permission to travel and as off now you could only fly air India or united airlines to india till spent 30th

There is no dual citizenship between India and USA, there never was. For people born in USA with Indian origin (subjected to criteria defined in the website), Indian Government offers an OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) card.

There is a chance if you can prove atleast one of your parents are of Indian origin.

The embassy recommends to have new passport stamped with the OCI information. However I have taken the old expired passport new passport and the OCI card in the past without any problems. Hope this helps

OCI allows you to stay in india as long as you want without worrying about any deadlines. Generally having an indian visa instead of oci limits your stay to 6 months.

Just to make sure, you want your wife to sign on behalf of your mother in law. If that's true, your mother in law makes the PoA in the favor of your wife. Mother in law's signature would be validated and counter signed at Consulate. Mother in law's photo would be on the Power of Attorney.

Passport renewal is done at Passport office and not consulate general's office. It's also in Atlanta. It takes somewhere between 2-4 weeks, naturally depending upon specific situations.

Your best bet maybe to call CKGS. They should be able to help you. Also equally important is what browser you are using to fill out your information. Wouldn't hurt to apply for OCI at this point you may be able to get that before you travel in Sept unless you need your passport prior to Sept to travel elsewhere. Good Luck

They are usually open by 930 am unless it's a government holiday in India. Recommend reading what's required for notarization of your document fill out the form and take a passport size photo and fees . I recommend taking fees in cash. For the most part no appointment is needed you can drop off documents in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. Hope this helps

You should be good to travel to any part of India as long as you have enough documentation to prove that you have a green card under ur name

PIO card is now invalid and cannot be used for travel to India. You should be able to convert your pio card to oci card. Check with ckgs and their website is very friendly. I just converted my daughter's pio to oci without any issues. Good luck

The Indian Consulate probably issues Visa but the process is now much more streamlined online. I could be wrong since I haven't applied for a visa recently. I believe one can now apply for an eVisa prior to traveling to India for a short term if you're a US citizen. May want to Google indian visa and see all kinds of options.
