I was looking forward to seeing the park, but after seeing it's virtually a park of only hiking trails, I left.

Good hiking spot, but very hot during the day. Bring a lot of water. Horseback riding is possible there as well as hiking with dogs

Didn't get photos but this is a beautiful state park with lots of hills and old filled in mines. There is one area that has a pink toned looking landscape due to minerals in earth. I saw lots of pink cacti in that area. Great hiking if you are into climbing steep hills and it's so pretty there

Climbed Grand Central Mountain from Cortez Mine trail head. Parking there is limited to 2-3 cars. We found a trail that avoid the nearby private property. It took us maybe 1.5 miles to the base of peak. It was a tough scramble from there. We don't think there are any trails to the peak. Be aware, the train is very steep and rocky. It was well worth the climb (~1500 feet). Unbelievable views up there.

It would be consistent to have camping areas with strict rules. One might be no trailers. Another might be:" Bring your own firewood. Or on this rich country, one might expect that the Forest Service would supply wood and enforce tent camping only. Why is this amazing country suffering corporate sterilization? This is obscene and citizens need to take it back, and soon! We owe it to posterity! Alfred B. Strehli, Jr. Composer and Eagle Scout, Troop 5, Lubbock Texas, W. A. Hood, legendary Scout Master.
Dogs are welcome, but must be on-leash only, at all times.
