2022 is a bad summer for Big Rocks Park, however it provides a view of the rocks unlike you can see any other time. With the water almost nonexistent, there was still a lot if ambiance to the place.

This is a truly beautiful place. The “big rocks” are ginormous and a sight to behold! There is shallow water (at least when we went mid May 2022) to splash in. However, just looking at photos we were very ill prepared for our visit. So here’s some helpful notes for my next trip and hopefully yours. When you look at the photos it appears to have ample sand area, this could not be further from the truth. It’s all rock. If you have sensitive feet, make sure you have proper foot wear. No need to take sand toys because there is no sand. There is also no shade. Bring hats or a canopy to put in the grassy area. Lots of sunscreen because there’s no refuge from the sun if you are in the water. Once you are in the water, it is very shallow and slippery. There are lots of crevices in the rocks as well so be careful where you step. Bring camp chairs because other than in the water or on rocks there is no place to sit. The kids had “fun” but I was miserable. I forgot my water shoes back at the B&B and didn’t want to get my only other pair of shoes I brought in our trip wet and soggy. I wanted to make our visit longer, but like I said, I was very unprepared so it was a fairly short visit this time around. When I was a child my family took a trip to Glen Rose and my most vivid memories are from this park. The rocks and playing in the water with my sister and cousin. I remember it being one of the best days ever.

Perfect place to take little dogs and little kids! The name of the park is pretty accurate. Grab some smooth rocks for skipping on the pretty river that runs through. Saw people fishing on the spillway. There's a great playground for kids at the end of the walking trail called Heritage Park.

Interesting place to visit and play with water. Looking at photos from others, it looks like the water level is very low on the day of my visit (around Christmas 2021).

Yes dogs are welcome on a leash. But they are not allowed in the cottages or cabins. Just in camping areas and RV spaces.
When we went they said that the park will be closed every Friday through Sunday this month but if you go to Heritage Park and walk the trail it goes to the big rocks and the river. So you can still access them that way. Thats how we had to do it.
Yeah go to the main street 67 and you find stores they will be pretty close
No. That area is not really good for fishing. You might have better luck a little further up stream.
It's not a Corp of Eng. park but you can hunt fossils and metal detecting. Just can't deface the big rocks in the park
Big rocks is free! You can swim, hike (go left to get down to the trails), take your pets. Public restroom are available.
No, but there is an Rv resort directly across the street called Oakdale Resort where you can tent camp it also has Rv spots and cabins available.
Ms jana. You get your bbq pits they dont have in there
yes
Not really any picnic tables or shelters...but if you cross the dam and walk along the river the walking path leads to the city park. Could have your cake there.
It's just a public park off the road. Similar to a playground. No reservations necessary.
They are mixed sediment but natural and huge
You can as long as you have a fishing license. Which you can get at uncle georges gun shop on south highway 144 about 5 minutes from the square
The last time I was there which was 2 weeks ago. They were low.
Check the city's FB page. Big Rocks Park was not open when I visited last Friday, July 10th. I saw that they were closed from Thursday at ~5pm to Monday at ~8am, if I remember correctly. The large parking area was not accessible. But, there is a small parking area near the road & picnic tables where you can still get in. There were people in the park that day.
when we went it was dried up alot 😪 call an ask they could have made more water not sure
Thank you for 4he information, but is there water running, I saw some other post that said no water ?
Yes it's always open Always somebody there you don't pay to get in It's also a lot of fun so have fun when you get there
Yes

Not a good idea to go right now it's under construction and no water running
No not near the water. There is a park area near through and people did bring their own.
I did see some people grilling
There's an ice cream shop next to the park. Word of warning. ... parking can be tough on the weekend.
Yes
It is never really too high at the actual rocks but there are places deeper down the river a bit, like just a small walk.
Yes
Ok, no thanks, I have a 90 yr old dad that I am trying to find a fishing spot for.
I don't see why not. We didn't have any issues when we went.
Yes
As of Sunday, 9 Sept 2018 there is water flowing through Big Rocks. Don't know how long it will last.
Yes the water is moving but calm, it's a very nice place to visit, my children didn't want to leave
There are no grills there and grilling is not allowed, also no campfires
If the hospital does not have a helipad it should be fine, but there might be some laws I don't know. Best to ask.
How much do they charge the entrance
