The hour lecture I had was informative, but the astronomer was rude when asked questions and we Didn't get to look at stars or planets.

We went for the 8:00pm presentation last night.Overall it was informative, however, the experience was ruined by Mr. Sheets and his over-blown view of self importance. We took our 17 year old foreign exchange student from Chile. When she tried to ask a question he assumed he knew what she was asking about and was quite rude with his response and didn’t actually answer her question. So, in short, we won’t go back to the observatory. Thankfully there are nice things to do and see without submitting ourselves to Mr. Sheets and his acidic personality.

Wonderful experience. We planned our whole vacation around the Eagle Eye Observatory session. Jim, the astronomer, was great and very informative of celestial bodies. We saw the Andromeda and Whirlpool galaxy. Andromeda is nearest galaxy to Milky Way. The Milky Way was more visible without white lights and light pollution. We saw Saturn and Jupiter. πŸͺ

The observatory was dark and quiet, the man giving the speech was very informative but not for the kiddos, it was more entertaining for the adults who make smart remarks which the instructor didn’t seem to enjoy. Our kids fell asleep 15 mins in so bring a blanket because it was a bit chilly at night. Seats are limited and uncomfortable. You will learn something.

No stairs at all. There is a small walkway from parking to the gazing place. Its not paved but normal grass n dirt. Pushing wheelchair will be lil harder then on paved surfaced.

How are the hiking trails, can we go on a few trails prior to sunset and then relax and enjoy the star lit sky? My interest is seeing the milky way most of all and I understand that the best time to view that would be midnight. how late can we stay?

Walking trails are located all arround the park some even lead to the observatory. It is very dark at night. You typically drive to the observatory because it's to dangerous. The observatory is open late at least till midnight.

There is an entry fee to get into the park. There should be an event, check their website. No need to register. Its a beautiful place for sky gazing and astro photography

Depends on time of year as they usually open after sunset, viewing doesn't really start until it is dark.
