The cat room smells but it's not my home

They helped me find my FURever friends that I went in looking for! I am so excited to pick them up soon. Thank you MHK animal shelter!

Employees were nice and the place was clean, but they need to be a little bit more clear on where the free dog toys were put at and if it is your first time there they should show you where the free toys are at.

YES they are. they're kill rate is under ten percent which qualifies them as a no kill. this is do to new foster animal and barn cat programs to ensure all the animal get what they need.
In our shelter, this is not true.
Yes they have a cat part and dog room to have one one one time
I don't know call them Tuesday and see
Ask your boyfriend about that and then introduce your dog on a leash and ask your boyfriend to put his own dog on a leash and see what happens
They do have an overnight drop. Just make sure you shut the animal inside they often escape due to not closing the drop.
Hi Don! If you are wanting to adopt, there are no jurisdictional boundaries for that! You can adopt from anywhere. If you are wanting to surrender an animal or bring in a stray, we do have jurisdictional boundaries to use the shelter without a fee. If you are within Manhattan city limits there will be no fee to bring an animal to us since we are tax funded, but if you are outside of Manhattan city limits there is a fee to utilize the shelter. We do have contracts with some areas, so give your city hall or local police/sheriff department to see if that is an option if you are needing to bring an animal in. I hope that answered your question! You can also call us for more details at #785-587-2783.
Hi Lenore! These sweet boys won't be euthanized at the shelter, we don't have any time limits for the animals at our shelter! Stinky and Lucky, the two Chinese Crested you are asking about, are definitely safe and getting lots of love and TLC to keep them happy! We just adore them! They have not had much adoption interest yet, so we are looking into rescue options so they have a more comfortable home environment to stay in while they find their new home! Unless we find an adopter before then, they will hopefully be snuggled up on a foster's couch soon! Thank you for loving these sweethearts and looking out for their well-being!
Great question! We have an application for you to fill out either at the shelter or online! Here is the link: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/TRRS/Dog Once we have that information we just make sure it is a good fit for you and the dog you are looking at, and if you have a landlord we verify that you're allowed to have the animal you're interested in. Once everything clears the adoption process takes about 20 minutes. There are no set in stone requirements as long as it is a good match and you are willing to meet the pets needs. As far as paperwork goes, we will need two forms of ID and a form of payment (cash or card). That's all there is to it!
I'm pretty sure they do! I very seen them there too!
They are open from 1pm to 5:30pm today.
Where's the pet finder?
We had to pay but we are in Dickinsen County. We were just pleased that they would help us.
They take rabbits. For free if you are living within Manhattan, Riley or Pott. Co. All other areas have to pay a surrender fee.
it used to be that if you got a cat or dog from the animal shelter it was usually already fixed, or if it wasn't they would give you some sort of certificate to lower the cost. You might call them about that. We recently got a cat from the shelter, and they charged $50 as a fee. It had already been neutered. Our previous cat was also neutered by the shelter, and the fee was around $75 for the adoption. The neutering was part of the adoption fee.
Ferrets less often, but usually every 4-6 weeks a guinea pig or a couple will show up! Ferrets seem to be a few times a year
Yes. There are small doors with keypads on the front of the building. I think sometimes they are hard to unlock.
Most are the same, around $70, but we adopted one for $40 and I think that's because he was a senior and harder to adopt. But for that they are spayed or neutered and are up to date on their shots. So the fee you pay is a fraction of what that would cost. The animals are well taken care of.
Wednesdays are reclaim only days, it's the only day they are closed to the public otherwise!
Yes if you are from Manhattan Riley County or Pottawatomie County there is no charge and you can take the animal to the shelter they will just want some basic information for the records but they will gladly take the dog
Yes we as of 3/5/18 we have 2 small pups and one chihuahua! First come first serve! We are always putting new dogs up for adoption
Any, but the ones without dyes is preferred
When we donated, we made sure they were open before dropping off items. Though I believe they will still accept items after-hours if protected from the elements.
