Fenton lake is a beautiful peaceful place! I will definitely return! A great place to spend time with family and great fishing! Love this place!

Ok first and foremost great lake and beautiful. Now add civilization to it. And you wonder why we have more forest fires these days? Remember California used to be the first state to have forest fires. Well now those people are coming out here. This is a hot spot with everyone. If you can deal with that, you are good. I personally loved this place years ago. But I also love going to places without civilization.

Awesome place to fish and camp. The rangers are super friendly and helpful. There are breathtaking views and you may even see a heard of elk or deer on the drive up the mountain. Been fishing at this lake since I was a kid and my love for it grows each time visit this lake. Fishing is normally great and families will have a great time together. Campgrounds full up fast so make reservations early.

Beautiful landscape, lake, and streams. This fish were not really biting but are just being put in lake from the hatchery. The bathrooms could be better serviced and there was some trash around the lake. Otherwise, I'll go back to camp a weekend!

👍 like all the other comments it will fill up and be busy
Fenton lake is not open, will open in a few days, do to restocking n maintenance.
This is very.popular lake so you need to get there early It's open for all special occasions
Haven't found 1 yet. General store at the turnoff might have information
Not sure now with the new snow. Call 575-829-3630 ask the rangers before you go. They are super helpful.
My advice to you is call and find out
Yes
Verizon has been working and there is also Wi-Fi access that is free for a bit then can be paid for.
There are cabins 8 miles from the lake but space there at the lake
Yes by reservation only. Please book at https://newmexicostateparks.reserveamerica.com/
There are several camp sights around if you just follow the road going up and past you will find many.
No, lake and campground is closed due to being state property. However the stream flowing into lake and nearby camping areas is US Forest service and are not closed.
Nope. Try the streams but avoid the standard way up because it's packed with people. Try the Gilman way up to avoid congestion.
It's closed completely. You can fish by the streams though.
I've only really caught trout in Fenton lake brown trout and rainbow are the most common ones to catch best to have a boat because they like deep water but you can still catch some from the shore so no mostly trout
Early like Wed
There are vault toilets throughout the camping area. It's good to look at the map when you reserve online to see how close you are to one of the vault toilets. The only running water is a pump in the day use area by the lake.

You can tent camp in an RV spot, but you cannot RV camp in a tent spot. In the winter all the sites become first come first serve. I am not sure when they restart the online reservation process each year, usually around April/May when the weather warms up a bit and families start using their vacation days. FYI You may need to pay cash if the online reservations are not yet available.
Im just trying to fish there will i still need reservations
No 👎 not at all its only for 🐟. Walk around relax. No 🏊 at all.
Yes
No swimming. It is fished heavily with tons of old fishing tackle in there.
There is one by the loading dock but not at each camp site. Fenton lake is closed right now because of fire
Yes, but they have to stay on a leash. There are people monitoring the lake to maintain compliance with that.
No. Swimming is not permitted. It is a fishing lake only. Must be thousands of hooks on the bottom of that lake not to mention broken glass, and other trash.
When we were there, Itv was $10. Per night
The gate's open at 7:00 am and close at 9:00 pm.
Yes! There are both electric and non electric spots,a play area with a structure for kids. It's beautiful
4 wheel drive, extra warm gear, tent heater, really good boots. Gets dark early so camp lighting
There is i.proved camping there, but as stated already, it fills up fast. If you take the state road right before fenton lake, about 3 miles before, it has a cattle guard, there is a plethora of primitive camping of all sizes. From RV to tent you can almost always find a spot.
