Beautiful this very relaxing cathedral

Amazing church with a lot of history, absolutely beautiful inside. You can't really see the size from outside, it seems smaller than it really is. I was amazed by how large and ornate the interior is when I walked in the door. The details on every inch of the interior are just incredible. It feels very victorian, like something out of a Ghibli anime.

This is a very beautiful and unique Basilica, and an easy walk from Love Park. There was a wedding going on, so I could not go inside, but the outside alone is worth the visit. The contrast of this building with the rest of the center city skyline is really cool.

Thier never really is unfortunately. The parking lot is closed at the church unfortunately during the week. Normal business hours don't matter either. Trust me I tried. To stay for mass it seems you would have to find a parking garage which is not cheap, or find a parking meter. Good luck on that one. I have parked in a few tow away zones for a quick confession...lol. My recomendation.....drive six minutes away and go to Saint John Neumanns on 5th street and Girard Avenue. 11:45 a.m. confession during the week and mass at 12:15 pm. Monday thru Friday. God Bless
Confession is a sacrament made by baptized Catholics to confess your sins to a priest anonymously and have them be absolved and forgiven.
Yes it is the largest Catholic Church in PA and the mother church
Sunday 8:00am in Basilica 9:30am in Basilica 11:00am in Basilica
Yes it would be. It is so beautiful to walk around and look at all the amazing work. There is a guided tour after the 11am Sunday mass. Also check out the gift shop to the right of the main Altar
The immaculate conception of Mary means she was born without original sin. God made her pure and full of Grace because he chose her to be the mother of our Lord and savior HIS SON Jesus Christ
St. Katherine Drexal was moved to the Cathedral a few months ago and the official ceremony for her reinterment was March 3 2019. You may visit the tomb during any time the Cathedral is open. See the website. Pilgrimages are encouraged to visit the Saint and her relics.
I have taken pictures inside during non mass times. As with any place of worship, be respectful. I would also recommend talking with the priests before you plan to take pictures. They may have suggestions of areas to photograph and may also allow you guided access to certain areas of the Cathedral.
There is not an official dress code that I am aware of.. It sounds like that would be fine if you are just going to look at the church. If you are going to Mass, modesty would be your best guide.
Pet animals are forbidden at all times from this landmark cathedral
12:30 pm on Sundays
Most Catholic chrches will have live masses through Facebook. You will also be able to watch the videos later.
I gather one might find it on the website
No, just street parking
There is parking but you must be allowed in by an attendant. The parking entrance is on 17th street behind the cathedral. 17th street is one way off of Vine Street. There is a ramp visible from the parking lot which takes you to the side chapel which connects with the cathedral.
Many masses Sat and Sun. Check on line
Yes, when the gift shop is open and/or when there are Masses in the Cathedral.
No...never on Good Fridays. Only mass was at 3pm. Several masses for Easter Sunday as well Saturday night vigil
From the main road take left to cathedral and again immediate left will take it to parking area after the main entrance. Another route is left from main road and go straight after parish office take second left (One way) and left on next signal then take 2nd left and right near to Sheraton.
I am sure you can. However, the ashes are nothing more than symbolic. They do represent your Catholic faith to those around you...But remember the meaning and intentions of the Lenten season. What good is "talking the talk" when you could be "walking the walk"...live life! ...don't do it half way!
At this point, I do not think there are any current firm plans
I guess you should be able to park on any road cutting Benjamin Franklin park way in the night or you can park for free at Park and Recreational parking but you will have to walk a little.
Yes.....thier was. In assuming you were talking about Christmas Mass or New Years mass which thier was. Sorry for the late post but I just seen it .
