Fantastic National Monument and the loop and Visitor Center is just a small part of it's 33k acres. The loop trail has several cliff dwellings you can enter via ladders, but some patience is needed. The Alcove Trail is awesome itself, but we opted not to go up to the Alcove House, as it's 2 way traffic up/down a narrow trail with a series of ladders. Yet another great Monument on Public Land. Support access and funding for these treasures please.

An light excursion that will leave you in absolute awe. I highly recommend hiking to the small summit overlooking the park via the Frey Trail and climbing up into the Alcove House, if you are able. It is truly something to behold.

Must do!! Grab a self guiding map from the visitor's center for $2 then hit the trail! There is a $25 parking fee unless you happen to visit on one of the 6 days that are "fee free" days. (Check the national park site for details) We arrived about 15 minutes after the national monument opened. The hours changed recently so we arrived at 8:45am and it was PERFECT! As we were leaving a few hours later it was starting to get much busier and the shuttle was running. We didn't have to use the shuttle because we were early! They have clean bathrooms. The Monument itself was a lovely hike and we did the main loop trail and the alcove house trail. Beautiful and amazing information.

Great park to explore. They have done a great job on the trails. Some cliff dwellings require climbing of ladders up to and down. Well worth the experience. There is also a campground available. A few spots would accommodate larger trailers but mostly for tent campers. No service campground but dose have sewer dump area and can get water. They told me it's $12 nightly.

You'll get an informative talk from a ranger when you arrive, if in a group off the bus like we were, grab a map and set out exploring. We encountered several rangers on our walk through as well. Points on the map are clearly marked. Get ready for a beautiful walk!
Round trip from the center to the dwellings and the latters, back to the center approximately 4.75 miles. (Thank you step tracker)
Varies throughout the year. Right now- 800 am to 630 am. You can check the hours & weather at nps.gov. They'll have a link to the Bandelier page
A small fee, but definitely worth it. Beautiful nature dwellings.
It depends upon the time of year. From middle of October until the middle of May, you drive into the visitor center. From the middle of May until the middle of October, you need to toake a shuttle from White Rock between 9 AM and 3 PM unless you have handicap plates/placard or are going into backcountry overnight. Before 9 and after 3 you can drive in. The shuttle this year starts on either May 15 or May 17
National site says open year round but some sites and hikes can be closed usually due to weather.
NPS policy is no pets, not even on a leash or carrier, while in the park.
A little harder just because ofweather conditions and visibility but doable. Especially if there's no snow or bad weather.
No dogs are allowed at national parks and national monuments.
Bandelier is open 7 days a week. Due to covid-19, you might want to check the hours on their website to see when they are open. It's current hours may be 9 am to 4:30 pm 7 days a week.
The Indian restaurant next to the visitor center is also open for lunch takeout, closes around 3pm.
Yes. There are a few. You can download an app called Dyrt that will show you these areas.
Yes, you can hike alone. They have pretty good trail maps for short hikes. Plenty of backpacking too.
15 entrance rd. Poplars
It was not as of Friday
Tim. Has given the full details However if u have more questions please call the park.
Or an America the Beautiful annual pass, senior or access pass. Military, volunteers and 4th grade passes too. https://www.nps.gov/planyourvisit/passes.htm Great way to support our parks and see a lot.
Its priced per car. $25 or $30 per car.
You can do the main hike and the alcove house in 2-3 hours easily. Go early as it gets crowded. It's so fun!
Its like 9 am to 4 pm During peak months you must take a shuttle in no personal vehicles
You can hike in the park from dawn to dusk.
There are some nice hot springs about 50 miles away in Ojo Caliente
There is a handicap accessible trail that goes up to the dwellings and you could see some of the dwellings, but not see inside of them. I think it would still be interesting.
The visitor center, ponderous campground, and juniper campground will remain open.
The main ruins maybe a couple hours if you take your time. If you want to climb the ladders to explore the alcove house, maybe another hour. If you want to do the falls trail, maybe another 2-3 hours. A longer hike like Ponderosa campground to the visitor center, which can include Alcove house and the main ruins, plan on the whole day (7.6 miles) plus you'd want to park cars at both ends! I highly recommend going to Tsankawi, which isn't part of the main site, that would be maybe 2-3 hours.
