Mellow hike, and cool water. Seems to be very family friendly. Must climb stairs to get to the waterfall. Not wheelchair friendly. It said No Swimming but there were folks sitting under the waterfall. Mellow.

Roughly a short .5 mile hike from the parking lot to the waterfall. To get to the falls quickly, follow the large main path from the parking lot and when you get the metal rails, continue walking up until you reach a bench. Here you will encounter two paths. Take the path to the left (wooden steps)which will lead you to a wooden bridge that leads up another set of steps going up. Once again you will encounter two paths, take the path to the left (<—-). This path will lead you to the falls. You should be able to hear the falls shortly if you are walking in the right direction. Take some water for yourself and your pet during the summer months.

Nice place to hike, bike, fish and play in the water! It's on the other side of the dam. Theres also a little waterfall that's cool to sit on and let the water run over you. Nice plain novice hiking trail. Cool boulders and cliffs. It is dog friendly but the blue algae last year (2021) has ruined that.

My husband and I spent time on our anniversary walking trails here at Chalk Ridge Park. We enjoyed a beautiful, mild morning, admiring the natural beauty of within the park. Our favorite part was the sights and sounds of the birdsong along the trails, as well as the falls themselves. There were benches here and there along the trails where we were able to relax, rest, and hydrate in this peaceful place. It was lovely to spend time together in such a pleasant environment.

its open to the public but closes around 9 pm. There are walking trails, places to fish, and places to play below at and above the falls. Dogs are welcome. most of the water arond the falls is about ankle to 2.5 feet deep. Bring good water shoes the rocks are slick.
I’m a firm believer in 2nd amendment and carry daily . But keep in mind that the park Is over seen by the Army Corp of Engineers ( Federal Government) so if you get caught your dealing with federal charges. Their are signs posted. Be careful
You can hike to the falls in a matter of minutes. There are plenty of longer trails as well. You can take as long as you would like.
Water testing was done not too long ago. It may open back up soon
Would be difficult for a wheelchair. All dirt paths and some are very steep.
There is no reservation, it is totally free. Enjoy it
Yes, along the river, just about anywhere plus near the waterfall.
No it's operated by the corps of engineers which basically makes it a military installation
yes there is a trail and a little bit of a walk.
Lots.of fishing make sure to have a fishing license
Leash and please clean up after your pet.
The answer depends on 2 main factors... type of handicap and how far back into the trails you intend to go. There are various uneven areas, all is unpaved and very steep wooden steps/bridges.
I usually get to the park around 10am. If the gate was closed, they were probably doing something safety related.
There are a few hills, yes. Not sure what your second question is asking
The hiking trails are full of ups and downs. Depending on what you mean by hills, yes. The trails here are not back country. They are definitely for amateur and mid range hikers. The trails are a few miles in total.
In late summer, when sweltering heat drives many people to seek relief in lakes and rivers, the risk of catching a bug from contaminated water rises. Because the lakes have gotten warmer along with everything else, there are more bacteria growing in them. I used to swim in that water when water moccasins were a big issue. Leaches freak me out but they're relatively harmless. Leech bites are not dangerous or painful, just annoying. Unlike some other creatures that bite, leeches don't cause stinging, carry diseases or leave a poisonous stinger in the wound. The bite doesn't hurt since leeches release an anaesthetic when they bite, but due to the anticoagulant, the wounds bleed a fair bit.
No food stand or store in the park. Bring your own
I did before but not often. Idk if they where allow to or what. I dont see any signs that say no kayaking.
Only went on a weekend and it was a little busy but nothing to crazy.
This place is amazing, free and beautiful. Bring water shoes so you can walk down the river up to the waterfall. Bring a lunch and walk up the river and also take the trails and enjoy the wooded nature. I went over 5 times while I was visiting Austin. Love this place. You can easily spend a few hours here. Don't miss the swinging bridge. Its on the way to the hiking trails. Enjoy.
I wouldn't worry. We walked all through the water. It's crystal clear and flows nicely. If you plan on fishing I would suggest to carry lightly, especially if you're going towards the falls. Lots of walking. When we fished we just brought our light poles and a fanny pack of a few jigs.
Path goes right to it. Once you hit the "falls" take the path to the left, which will then go downhill a bit and it will be in front of you.
There are a couple of sets of stairs you will have to pull it up and drop it down, and depending on how full the creek is, the drop off to the water is pretty steep. There is also railing on a lot of parts along the trail you would need to lift the stroller up and over to get to the water. Possible, yes. I would not say friendly
Not sure on length. Occasional stairways and a swinging bridge.
I don't think so. It's a public park.
Usually take a board that's a long about 6 feet long 2 feet wide and put it Upstream from the Falls to block the water so that it gets deep enough to swim in just a little bit of a waste for an adult perfect for kids and then when you remove the board perfect for taking pictures by the waterfall because water rushes it's very beautiful
N0, only at the beginning in the parking lot.
Have seen an Eagle soaring in the area of the river and even swooping but lost sight of it in the tree tops! The/an eagle was also seen at or front Dan Peak in Nov and Dec. 2019
Call parks and recreation for confirmation on that.
There is none. Just hiking and fishing
Stillhouse lake is good for fishing early morning
They don't close on holidays. I have been many times on holidays. People go out as early as sunrise. You wont really find a lot of rules or monitoring out there. Don't be there in the dark and you're fine. Have a great time!
