This is on the list of the Louisiana African American Heritage Trail on the tourist website for the state. Cameron the tour guide was wonderful. His family has been in the area for several generations and has Creole roots. The tour itself was not exactly white washed as some others can be, and emphasizes the Creole roots. These people are basically native to the area. Yes there were slaves here, yes a few families still lived in the slave cabins until 1977. But all of this was pointed out in the tour. Everything was wonderful. There was quite a bit of walking and some stair climbing. I would recommend this tour to everyone.

If you want a snapshot into Louisiana history, this is a great place! The plantation’s story follows primarily one family. The ways their family have shaped the area was very interesting to me. The gift shop is well stocked with decorative items, jewelry, and lots of food items. And our guide, Auguste, did a great job for having such a large group. But on that note, we were grouped with 20+ people total—far too many for the small rooms. They were short staffed (on a Monday). That was the only downside. Overall I enjoyed the tour!

I really love the generation concept that is portrayed in all of their brochures. The property is spectacular, the gifts shope is exactly what I was looking for. There was a great mix of historical and local items for sale. Now for the reason I did not like the Laura. We were told we could take pictures but were "raced" through so quickly there was no opportunity. Pat our guide was extremely well versed in her subject however she seemed bitter about having to show "outsiders" her plantation. She spoke so quickly and stated she would accept questions yet when I asked questions she treated me as if I was stupid. One question was with regards to the dormer window. "People didn't live up there, it's for ventilation." Yes absolutely correct but answered in a way that told me not to ask any more questions. We were not allowed to walk around the property and I understand. But... the entire experience with Pat made me feel as if tourists are not wanted.

Stellar tour! It was great learning the history of this plantation. Nothing was sugar coated real authentic history. Pam was a fantastic tour guide. Very knowledgeable and funny. Prices were very reasonable with about an hour and a half tour. Loved the tour of the whole grounds. Would definitely recommend!!

Hello -- Times vary depending on the availability of the French-speaking guide. Please visit https://www.lauraplantation.com/buy-tickets for more information.
Bonjour ! Laura is in compliance with all CDC recommendations and directives from the Louisiana Department of Health. The entire staff at Laura is fully vaccinated and per the Governor's directives, fully vaccinated guests are not required to wear masks. We look forward to welcoming you soon for a visit.
Hello ! If you bought tickets directly to Laura through our website, you will need to rent a car to drive yourself. Laura Plantation is in the country about an hour from New Orleans. Taxis/Ubers are very expensive and you would need to ensure that the driver stay on-site to transport you back to the city, as there is NO taxi or Uber service out here.
I would agree this summer is the best time to go you really get that effect
Yes!!
At least 2 hours, but could easily spend more depending on your interest.
It is a plantation which gives a guided tour about what life was like in a plantation. Much of the information provided gives a different perspective on what it was like to be a slave. It is in Vacherie, Louisiana.
If you can go by car, it is always open and in a photo of the place that went up is the price of less than a month ago.
Well in that case it was French but slaves learn to speak whatever language the owners were English German French. They also were very often baptized the whole idea was to get as much Africa out of them as possible
Sorry don't know about Christmas time, but i know it is a very learning experience whenever you go and the guides are are very experienced.
