Rock Creek is a total jem in the middle of DC. I love it there so much. So many awesome trails & for as long as I've been going I always find new trails and see new areas.

Great picnic areas. Spacious and clean spaces. Bathrooms were relatively clean for a park. No funky smell, well lit, and ac controlled. Kayaking, pedal boat, and row boat available on the lake. Playgrounds are really nice. Home/bike trail available too.

Rock Creek Park is an underappreciated DC treasure. It's lousy with wildlife. It's tranquil. And it's nearby. Rock Creek has a nature center, hiking trails, and picnic areas, some with pavilions. Some of the roadways are closed to motor vehicles. Please do not feed the ducks; it violated Park Service rules, and it's harmful to the ducks, besides.

A great place to hike especially during the fall. There are different routes you can take all ranging in distance and intensity. Make sure you get back to your car before dark.

There's a website Recreation.gov that you can go to and see what is available.
Part of Beach Drive may still be closed to vehicles due to road work but is open to bicyclists, runners & hikers. You can call National Park Service in DC 24/7 to check updates about road construction &/or inclement weather causing closures.
It extends through all of DC and up into Maryland, so probably 10 miles top to bottom. Wikipedia says it is over 2000 acres, so larger than Central Park in NYC.
The park is open year-round during daylight hours. The park is closed after dark. However, Nature Center, Planetarium, Old Stone House, and Peirce Mill and Barn have their own hours.
