Love the way the shelter is set up

They posted on FB that they were “overflowing” with barn cats. Our beloved barn cat passed last spring, so I commented that we could take 1 or 2. I commented on that post twice - no response. I messaged them privately - also no response. I called the next Saturday morning and was told on the phone that yes, they had lots of barn cats needing homes. Loaded up the fam and made the 30 min drive. When we got there, there were no available cats. There were 2 that still needed vetting - and if I could wait, I could pick them up on Tuesday. I agreed, and left my name and number. No one has called. I guess I’ll look for barn cats elsewhere? How many more animals could be adopted & helped if this organization was just a little more responsive? UPDATE - I did call back, and was told my name was on file for two Barn cats, and someone would call me as soon as they were ready. Still haven’t heard back. Tried calling today at 2:45pm, and apparently they’re closed.
Unapproved Truth
Emily at the front desk is barbarically rude and frankly doesn't deserve her job. She's condescending, lazy, incompetent and unpleasant - all wrapped up in a homely overly tattooed package. I pity the employees who are stuck working with her. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to fulfill community service hours - don't even bother with this place. Do your hours at the Salvation Army or something, where you can get a free meal out of the deal. Let Emily clean her own dog bowls and pet laundry, the rude pig.

My inquiry and questions were answered extremely quickly. The service was fast, the workers were nice, and the adoption fee was only 10$, which is a plus. However, when I went to pick up the guinea pig, he had no food in his food bowl, and no sign of hay. His house had also been tipped over in a way that he could not get to his water bottle. One of his eyes was also sunken in, which is a sign of dehydration. I understand that this shelter probably doesn't deal with guinea pigs that often, but I feel that for the amount of time he was there, someone should have been able to get him hay.

If you have the time and resources to provide a safe and caring home, it would be a fantastic thing to do.
Go in and visit some to see which would be a good fit for you. There is no application and most animals have $60 adoption fee.
They don't but you must live in the city of Denton and be able to provide proof
Adoption fees are to cover the shelters costs to get the kittens chipped, vetted, dewormed and shots. Very low fee compared to what they charge you. It's also a show of being able to properly care for said kitten. If you cannot afford the $60 adoption fee, it would be unwise to adopt a cat. They cost money. That's why we don't have one, even with as much as we'd like to.
I'm sorry to hear about your loss. The animal shelter can dispose of the dog for a $45 fee. Unfortunately they won't usually go out to the home to pick up the dog, but you can bring it up to the shelter on Monday, preferably in a double lined bag. Best of luck and I'm sorry about your loss.
Yes you can. A lot of people also post listings on the Nextdoor app for the my neighborhood app here in Denton possibly even Facebook
Talk to the manager they might have a summer program
You have a few choices: 1. Take your dog with you, after all he is a part of the family. There are many pet friendly hotels, etc. 2. Find a family member or friend to either take your dog into thier home to care for him, or stay at your home to take care of him. 3. Have someone, either family, friend, or a professional pet-sitter To Go To Your Home A Number Of Times Per Day To Feed, Walk, And Play With Him. 4. Find a reputable kennel to board your dog while your away, he will need to be up to date with all of his shots, and need a bortatella shot to protect him from kennel cough. Have a great vacation, Rita
If you have any questions about any of these adoptable pets, please call the Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center at 940-349- 7594. The shelter is open Monday through ...
Yes, today (Friday)and Saturday adoption fees are waived for dogs. Cat adoptions are on hold because of a feline virus they're dealing with.
I don't know how it works but I think you should call and ask
im so sorry about your loss. I hope you found them
Yes. I believe it's $60
They had a donation box outside this weekend when we went. Not sure about volunteering.
Call Denton county dog shelter they have a website shows all dogs they have, good luck
Call Wild Rescue. If they can't help, they may know who can.
Yes
No. You may want to look at an animal hospital.
Yes! The Denton Animal Shelter has an incredible volunteer program where you can spend tons of quality time with the animals. Call and schedule a quick orientation, and you'll be all set.
I thought I was asking them
I'm not sure if they handle that. I think that would be between you and the new owner.
I think you would have to go through a vet or they would know where to go. So sorry for your loss.
You can call them and they will probably have a number for a rehabilitator for birds. You might be able to find a number online.
They do, i have seen hamsters, a mouse once, gerbils, rabbits, etc
Call the animal shelter
They are pitbulls. They are people friendly.
Take your pup to the Vet they will happily take care of you.
Have they picked up your dog? Tyler Jackson?
Try the low cost spay and neuter in Denton!
They always give an animal a name, but you can always change it upon adoption.
I'm sure they will accept them. I don't think where you live will be a problem as they serve Sanger, Krum as week as Denton. I'm sorry you have to surrender your dogs.
Yes that is sad but true
All you have to do is have your DL or ID. When you get there let them know that you want to surrender your animal. They'll ask you some questions and then they should accept the cat. Ive done it before with a puppy I couldn't care for.
They only do shots for the animals at the shelter unless they are having a special event. TCAP on Sunset has them for $25.
Where do you live?
You can call or go to there website.
Ok, thanks for answer so quickly.
They haven’t killed animals in quite a while though, a few years I believe
There are a few other requirements that haven't been mentioned. It's best to first go in first to see the dogs they currently have. Then they will be asking and answering your question. They rarely answer the phone due to a usually light volunteer staff. They may have some answers on their website, however they dont post the animals.
You will need to go in to find out as they do not list on their website
To get help with having outdoor cats fixed look up a group in your area that does TNR. Or rent a trap from the animal shelter and go on www.alleycatallies.org to learn how to do it yourself. Relocating feral or community cats that cannot be rehomed is a LAST CHOICE resort. It is incredibly hard to relocate them and has a low likelihood of success. It is much better to Trap them, Neuter(or spay) via a low cost or free program such as SPCA or others offer, and then Return them to the area - the foundation of TNR. This way their population stops expanding and eventually the colony will die out naturally if proper care is taken to get each new cat fixed. Unwanted cats which are unfriendly, unsocialable, and cannot be placed as a barn cat may be put down. This is unnecessary and unfortunate. Keep them outside where they like to live, but get them fixed!

Please check the shelter website as well as post pics in Denton on and offline.
Yes, they have a room that they bring the pet into for you to interact with.
Also tell them to mind their own business
Go find a dog that loves you and you love it and it’s preferably a senior dog bc puppies will get adopted without problems but not senior dogs PLEASE ADOPT A SENIOR DOG
I know that some dogs and cats don't click. I don't have pets, so I wouldn't be able to help.
The shelter is closed until Monday. You can either contact animal control to take to the shelter or post a picture here and maybe a rescue organization can assist.
Yes! I'm sure they'd find that useful
There is no charge to surrender an animal. You do have to live in the City limits (not county) and show proof of residency (address on license, utility bill, ect).
Yes, you can surrender an animal to them.
I haven't ever seen any at this shelter. They do get rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, and other random animals every so often but so far no sugar gliders.
Depending on where you are, you would call Denton County. Denton Animal Shelter is a city shelter, not county
Denton shelter was where we got both our pets. Good place. I'm sure they would help if they have space.
Street turns from N. ELM into N.US 77 .. kind of confusing if your not filmilar with the area and streets ..
