I've taken 2 of my Rats here for various medical issues and every visit has been nothing short of flawless. I'd highly highly recommend using them as your vet for any exotics especially Rodents. The techs and front desk folks are super helpful and kind as are the vets. 10/10 I can't recommend them enough.

I just had my first appointment here in about two years. Back then I had a great experience, the surgery for my bearded dragon went well, and she went back to normal. Dr. T took amazing care of her. This week, her eye started swelling really badly and I had a feeling I should bring her back here. They remembered her from her last visit two years ago. This time I met with Dr. Jones, who was so compassionate and understanding, and helped me work through how to tackle this issue. I have her surgery scheduled next week and I know she will be in good hands. *update* her surgery was successful and she is recovering normally! If you have an exotic pet and need high quality care you can rely on, you need to come here. Everyone from front staff to technicians to vets are all incredibly kind and they genuinely care about your pet. I'm also very thankful that they have a credit care option so I can pay the fees over time. It would have been extremely difficult to pay for the procedure without it. This place is a blessing and I will always bring her here for specialty care.

Dr. Welle really knows his stuff. Helped our little snake out. Excellent "bedside" manner, explained everything he was doing and the rationale behind it. If you have a pet outside the norm, start here.

We were fortunate enough to find care for our feathered family here. The care is truly top notch expertise, loving and professional. After we moved to Houston metro, we still drive the three hours one way to take them in for anything significant. I don't have any pictures of the office but here are two of our feathered kids that get their excellent care here. The little guy, conure, just had surgery for a significant injury and he is doing great thanks to their care. We wouldn't have entrusted that serious medical work to anyone else. Yes, We do. We wish more people had insurance. Unfortunately a lot of pet insurance companies will not cover the kinds of patients we see. But some of them certainly will cover rabbits.
You can call them and see what the office visit fee is.
We do see venomous ("hot") snakes here at Texas Avian & Exotic Hospital. However, as you can probably imagine we have a very, very strict protocol regarding how we handle them and we do not deviate from our protocol under any circumstances. You may call to inquire further- it takes some time to prepare for these kinds of appointments.
depends on what is needed. although i will say they are fantastic and the care is top notch. the price charged is worth it.
We just had ours spayed for about 700$
It depends on whether we've seen your rabbit before (we need to do an exam first and get a good medical and husbandry history from you). It depends on the age of the rabbit, any existing medical conditions, history of any lab work. But it all starts with a physical exam. You can give us a call and we can walk you through the procedure.
We certainly do! We love bunnies. We even have a "house" bunny named Dumbo (we neutered him ourselves).
You will need to call us so that we can ask how many chickens, why are you needing a field service.....basically what Brittney said (Brava Brittney!)
We love bunnies and see them every day! We even have one who lives here- I guess he's our mascot. Unfortunately we've asked every single staff member and no one knows more than a few words of Spanish. We need to fix that.
There are several factors that determine what the cost of an initial exam would be such as age, condition, first time visit for the pet. You can always call the hospital and we can go through these questions on the phone with you and give you a pretty accurate estimate. We don't like to surprise clients, especially those visiting us for the very first time.
It depends on whether it is an initial visit, a recheck, a referral from another veterinarian, a transfer from an ER... Some species have a different fee, for example venomous (hot) snakes or primates. That's because we have very strict protocols in order to keep everyone safe. Just give us a call and we can give you an estimate over the phone!
We realize this is a roundabout answer to what seems like a straight forward question. But... It depends on the age, overall health, if any blood work needs to be performed prior to anesthesia, etc. You can just give us a call and we can set up an initial exam.
We absolutely see snakes and pretty much any other reptile! We see lots of them actually. Dr. Jordan Gentry sees most of our reptile patients- he's residency trained in zoo medicine. Dr. Thielen see them too.
In farm animals intended for food, roosters can be neutered when they are a few weeks old. These birds are then called capons instead of roosters. Here at Texas Avian & Exotic Hospital, almost all of our chicken patients are pets so we don’t caponize (neuter) young birds intended as food. Sometimes we must caponize a rooster for a medical reason, and we use general anesthesia and pain medications. The testes are inside the body cavity and in adult roosters the surgery is risky, invasive and painful unless managed properly. Therefore, we do not routinely neuter pet roosters.
Call them and ask. They are very helpful and friendly.
We do nail trim on birds but we require a full physical exam prior to any grooming. Give us a call to ask more!
