This COULD be a really great park. However, the City of Pontiac needs to do a way better & timely job of picking up the trash generated by the people who have no qualms living and playing amongst the garbage they drop or kick out of their cars. That, and get better trash cans with the springy lids like they have at Independence Oaks & other much cleaner parks in Oakland County. Especially if they are going to let the contents in their receptacles sit overnight. Visited 2 days in a row in search of a geocache that was placed there and you could tell the same trash was still there from the day prior (in the cans & laying about). Cans were tipped over, presumably, by animals looking for a midnight snack. It's unfortunate because this is a nice waterside park minus what the humans have done (and do) to it. Oh, there was refuse near the water's edge, too. I am usually a good citizen and try to CITO as much as possible, but I found my cache and left as quickly as possible in disgust. That said, I did not feel unsafe (but I am no shrinking violet either). One thing I was BEYOND excited to find at Hawthorne Park was a Paw Paw fruit growing with other smaller Paw Paw trees around it. Have only seen those on YouTube and the general internet until now. Luckily, it was at least somewhat away from the egregious garbage situation. I would go check out Hawthorne Park at least once so that you can see and assess all of the lost potential yourself.

Good fishing by boat not the pier. Sometimes over crowed on the tiny pier. Lots of atmosphere. New disc golf course put in. Facilities to use if needed. During busy weekends , sometimes a lot of garbage is left around. Other than that , form your car you can watch the ducks and swans on the lake. Didn't know you could ice fish there
A buddy of mine used to fish there all the time. He says there's a lot of pike and bass. c:
You would have to go up there to reserve if no number is on the website. I haven't seen any bounce houses before but it would be interesting to know.
I see people fish there... park is very littered not sure about the water.
