I've been to many Hertz car rentals across the country and have been a President's Club Member for 3 years. This is by far the worst Hertz car rental I have found in the US. I've rented from this facility thrice and every time, regardless of how far in advance I made the reservation, they had no car available for me. I always arrive on time and have waited 2 hours on average for a car. They refused to upgrade or change my car to one that was available despite my status. They need an operational overhaul. Reservations made in advance need to be pulled up the day before and cars should be queued up in the parking. The sooner the cars are ready, the less people are likely to wait and the more sales they will get. I've observed many customers ahead of me miss weddings and major events because of this incompetence. Go to Avis nearby. They'll get your clean car out in 10 mins.

This place is actually so good. Location is right downtown San Fran near Union Square - so basically in the hotel district. Also, regional manager Mike was seriously unreal. His customer service was outstanding and he needs to be promoted to CEO of Hertz immediately. Mike thank you for your attention to detail with my order and for going above and beyond! You rock!

Its easy when you get the car but If you are going to make a change in your current rental its a nightmare. Every time you call you get an automated series of options and even though at the beginning of the call they tell you hours of operations, they don't pick up the phone when is still earlier to that time. For me it was really hard to change the drop off location and not even in the web page I was not able to do so.... Called another locations and they weren't willing to help me either.

I had a reservation for 7:30am and they said it would be a two hour wait for a car unless I chose to upgrade. They had no idea what they were doing and it took forever for them to figure out how to check me out even though I am a five star member nothing seemed to matter. They also put down the return for 5pm the same day even though it is a 24 hour rental. Lastly, the car I got was filthy. The car had dirt on it from top to bottom.

If you take the car back late they may charge you upto a full days rate again
In my case, a Mexico driver license did it. No international license required. I only drove through California though.

Does it allow drop off after 6pm?
No, and be careful with parking in San Francisco downtown, if I go back I would go by public transport, taxi ... Less worry
