Tourist trap in a good way. Service was good and pretty quick for as big of a place as it is. Server was super friendly. A man was walking around playing guitar for tips. Food was good, but not anything out of this world. I’d say my steak was a little over cooked in places which always makes me sad for a steak place. They didn’t ask how my son wanted his steak cooked for the kids meal, so that was definitely cooked more than our preference, but was my fault for not asking.

This is listed as a place you have to stop to eat if you are near there. It did not disappoint! The steaks were big and delicious. The sides were also good, but the desserts are amazing. We took our 4 layer slices of carrot cake and chocolate cake to go. These pieces of cake are HUGE and very good. There is something for everyone - live music, ice cream, gift shop, brewery and games in addition to the restaurant. We enjoyed it very much!

This place is a fun tourist stop for families and groups. I loved the old time west/country feel. It's very old west saloon kind of environment. The calf fries/mountain oysters were amazing!! The house salad was also delicious. We both ate steak. The steak was bland without much flavor. I would get chicken fried steak as a choice if I went there again. Definitely a great experience. My sister and I were able to make a great sister moment at this restaurant. Their souvenir store inside is great and prices are fair. I bought like $100.00 worth of things for my kids and sister. Don't go through Amarillo and not stop in for a great memory of Amarillo, Texas

We visited this spot for two reasons. First, it seems to be the most known restaurant in Amarillo, and second, we wanted to try out the real texan cuisine. The wait times at this location are insane, so it is better to make reservation ahead of time if possible. The employees are not the friendliest we encountered, but they are super busy, so its understandable. The menu is nice-looking, better than most places we visited. When we came in we were obviously going to eat meat, but they were out of T-bone steak, which is very unusual for such restaurant. The dishes we ordered were pretty good and fresh, but preparation takes quite a while, since the place was full. And it might not worth waiting such a long time to eat here. There is a lot of beer options in this location, and they even have small tasting glasses available. Overall, we had a decent experience here, especially since we simply drove through Amarillo. One suggestion, though, before trying the fried oysters, make sure you know what that really is…

Yes, there is a large lot on the west side with plenty of parking for large long haul trucks, and turning space. Enjoy.
YES!!! You do have to go ON your birthday, and provide proof such as DL, State ID, Passport, etc...I just got home from having my Birthday dinner of Prime Rib!!
Yes we have had supper and beverages, then had breakfast. When it's full. Just call from the truckstop and they come get ya and drop ya off. Not sure about breakfast if they shuttle then, but definitely do at night.
Yes we are! We are also having a Thanksgiving buffet
no and by the way, they have a good selection of beer
You can't go wrong there. Best stakes around
It's a child about 60 to 70lbs smothered in the scratch made house bbq sauce then slow smoked to perfection. Perfect when feeding a large party. 😂
Yes, you definitely can. Enjoy!
My birthday was last month and they gave it to me for free, I'd call to double check
At first glance, yes. However, a courtesy call ahead would verify and be appreciated, I bet!
Still open for breakfast in 2020? Trying to plan tomorrow’s drive.
Why do people keep thinking this place is 24/7? They close at 22:30! I visit every now and then, even overnight. Trust me, they’ve got closing hours. I believe they open at 8. Their breakfast is a great spread. Little known secret: their BACON is MORE legendary than their steak. Well, at least it is imho haha. Skip their scrambled eggs and go for the omelette bar. Try their breakfast enchiladas 😋
Prime rib is my go to every single time I go there. They have brisket but I can never bring myself to leave the prime rib.
Just called and was told no reservations, first come first served.
They have huge cakes: red velvet, carrot, chocolate, peanut butter banana, cheesecake. BUT NO PECAN PIE!!! Pecan pie is ubiquitous with Texas, you’d think it’d be there, but it ain’t! Every time I ask why, I just get shrugs. There is house made fudge, cookies, brownies, a gelato bar and an espresso bar out in the front area. I am usually too full to try their desserts haha. Their fudge is pretty standard. I have only tried their carrot cake. It’s good, but my recipe is better 😉
Sorry to hear they're not pet friendly. I was hoping to bring my python to do the 72 pound person challenge.
It's in over the top steakhouse I would advise going to a different restaurant if you're looking for that kind of a menu
Yes, with valid identification. Just need to fill a form out and they will give you your choice of the free meal.
I cant answer for them but from what I heard the owner say about truckers. I hope they are. I'm sure truckers will appreciate it even more than they do now for being able to have a good meal and a parking place.
Sorry, the challenge is for one person to eat it, plus appetizer salad and maybe 2 sides in an hour or less, if they do this the meal is free.
Half pound burgers, if that's not enough order the Double Barrel Burger for a one pounder.
If you are considering this place because you want a fantastic steak I would go elsewhere. Go there if you want to VISIT the icon.
No private but there was an upstairs or over by the game area was more dining
No, just steak
No !!! So sorry maybe in another place but not there.
There is a specific small area for dogs to use the restroom and meet other dogs.....it is all outdoor, otherwise he or she would need to stay n the vehicle if weather is permissable.
No you have to eat a 72 oz steak with all the sides to get it free.
For a group of six or more, they would like you to make a reservation. Other than that, it's first come, first served for their Thanksgiving buffet. I phoned them just last week to confirm this.
No as long as the person is with a legal guardian and if they can't finish the meal within 60 mins it will cost $85.00. Are you sure you understand the rules it's 72 ounces of meat plus a big dinner salad, baked potato, bread and a big dessert
If you have 6or more in your party then yes call and make a reservation
Yes. They have that amenity
There Are No Reservations. My sister Candi is a waitress there ask for her she'll take great care of you
I was at the bar. Didn't have that experience.
I do not recall seeing outdoor seating.
Gravy???
Don't know. But give them a call. Doesn't hurt to ask.
And
That I am not sure.
Yes they still have breakfast
Yes, I'm one of the drivers. We run everyday, pickups are from 4 to 9. Drop offs are whenever you are finished. Cost is free, just tip your driver 😜. Have a fun night.
Not sure you would need to call them?
We walked over from the ta but they took us back, so I'm guessing they still pick drivers up from all the truckstops
Yeah you are able to substitute it if you ask, I do not know the options.
I had calf Fry's but I heard it's deep fryer
GIVE THEM A CALL / I BELIEVE YOU CAN...ITS BREAKFAST / LUNCH / & DINNER...
NOT POSITIVE / GIVE THEM A CALL...
Where do you think they get the 72oz steak??
7:30 am
Alot of us may not agree with it, but the proprietor of this business does have the right to ask licensed individuals not to carry on his property. This is America, the land of the free. If you own it, you make the rules. If you don't like the rules, don't be a patron at that establishment.
Best home brew beers I was surprised how good they are
They will fix anything on their menu anytime you want.
Thats a double negative. Why ISNT my name NOT listed??
The sign says open 365 days a year.
Beer is very subjective, but we liked the Pecan Porter
The price of the 72 oz steak was as of last week October 2019 $1 .00 per oz...it is a complete meal price with shrimp cocktail salad and baked potato...the 18 oz was a great rib eye choice I enjoyed..
There isn't TV's in the restaurant. Enjoy the meal if you go.
If u eat everything it's free and they refund the $72 back , u have to pay upfront enjoy
Their is parking directly behind the the Big Texan for big trucks, campers etc.
Not English
Not sure in the rules it says that cutlery is provided. Judging by how tough a medium rare ribeye was, you'll need a very sharp knife.
I don't think you'll get a meal for free. You might get a dessert and a song.
BIG TEXAN HAS A BREAKFAST BUFFET SERVED FROM 7AM TO 10:30AM
Yes
I was able to fill up my own growler at their bar/brewery for a decent price.
There's a menu item for a steak that's prepared for two people to split. I'm not sure if there are any fees for like the big 72 oz challenge or not, though
They have buffet only on special occasions like mothers day and Christmas.
Comfort Inn and Suites is approximately 4mls from there and is a GREAT hotel. Me and some friends went to Amarillo a few months ago and REALLY enjoyed both places!
Looks like they do a buffet from 10 to 3. You should call in for reservations as it is limited seating. 11 and older is $15.99 seniors are $14.99 and children from 4 to 10 or $13.99. I would definitely call and double-check everything. That info was on a Facebook listing from I believe 2017.
I would not dis over a cup, great food!!
No
In the mornings, there is a breakfast buffet. It is no big thing and it ends by 11 am. But as for a buffet like the Petro has, no.
Yes
They should be able to make accommodations
Yes , you can see posted close to the challenge table. Good look.
We stayed at an RV parka short distance away, told the front desk we wanted to go to the Big Texan. A limo with horns came, picked us up, told us the history of the place, brought us to the restaurant and was there to bring us back to our RV! One of the highlights of our Snowbird vacation trip!
Sorry I don't know I'm back in the United Kingdom not due back in the USA until end of February
They dont take reservations but will hold a table for a big party
No but they will pick you up and drop you off.
Press the button
Yes
You have to eat it along with the sides in 1 hour to win. Fair warning: You pay for it in advance. If you can do it, they'll issue you a refund. If not, get a to-go box, because you bought it. Good luck to you!
If you stay at a local hotel they have complementary limo service sometimes you can find coupons in the info section of the hotels
I used the one 2nd floor their was one, my wife used the one on the first floor and she say yes their is some
Lotsa different hotels close by. Free pick up/ return by longhorn fronted limo. Didn't see a hotel on site per se... God Bless and good luck!!
Your best bet would be to call and make sure what they use!
Best is just go talk to the Manager, and show an interest in working. Friendly & outgoing makes for a good waitress or hostess. Be yourself, not someones relative.
Real butter, also try the rocky mountain oysters they are very good
I really don't know. Their steak is not of the quality to even warrant that ordeal. You being from Chicago, would absolutely find much better steaks than the big Texan at your local butcher or high end grocery store.
The Big Texan was formed in 1960. It's always been called The Big Texan. Although it was located at a different location and they've been at this new location for quite some time because Interstate 40 was moved.
Sunday night, New Year's Eve? I bet there's going to be a lot going on. You may have to bring your own champagne and party hat though
0700 to 2230 Confirmed
I think it's only open on weekends this time of year, depending on the weather
Steak, salad I'm gluten intolerant and come here all the time.
Lots of different Steak options, Rocky mountain oysters, Baby back ribs ( very good ). Unique Steak House with cool gift shop. There is even a, live, rattle snake in there.
Lunch was the best, service was very fast, waitress very friendly and polite.
