We live in Florida but anytime we are passing through Virginia we look for excuses to visit the Craddock Terry. We have visited / stayed here probably five or six times and have been here during every season (even got snowed in 3 days which was awesome). A converted old shoe factory that has kept the heritage alive in so many ways. Giant red shoe on the outside, shoes on each door, shoe boxes that you put out to get your breakfast in the morning, and they left much of the brick and rustic beams exposed. The service is always excellent and if you happen to be there on a night when the restaurant Shoemakers is open… make sure that’s where you eat! It is one of our favorite restaurants. Based on all of our stays… I would give this hotel six stars if they allowed it.

Great hotel and location too bad it is ruined by terrible staff and customer (non)service. Only one of the front desk staff was friendly (dark haired younger lady). The other 2 (blonde hair older women) were beyond rude, unprofessional, and hostile. While we were checking in, a man complained about being double charged. The dark haired lady was handling it professionally but the blonde woman interrupted her and repeatedly yelled at the man. Then another lady came to complain that the heat rather than the AC was on. The blonde lady barked at her and basically called her stupid for being unable to manage the thermostat. All this was going on while this same blonde women was supposed to be checking us in, but they lost our reservation. After 20 minutes she found it but they gave away our larger, more expensive room and gave us a room that 3 people could not sleep in so they brought us a blow up mattress that took up the whole small room. We were told that we would receive a discount for our trouble. No discount was given. We simply paid the current charge for the smaller room. The next day, we had no electricity in the am, so were unable to get ready for the wedding we were attending that afternoon. Once the electricity came back on, we had no hot water. When we advised the blonde lady of this issue she was rude and nasty. I was appalled by her attitude. I explained that I understand that hotels cannot always control things but they should have hot water for all of their guests and should offer a credit or discount when things go this wrong. All I received was hostility and arrogance- how dare I complain. When we checked out a new blonde lady was at the desk so I thought perhaps she would be more receptive. Quite the opposite. Before I even said hardly anything, she interrupted me saying they can’t do anything about the City brown out. I wasn’t even going to mention the lack of electricity. I was going to say what were they going to offer us for losing our reservation, giving us a smaller room that adults, kids, and dog could not even walk around in and for having no hot water. She scoffed that I already received my discount. I had to explain to the woman that charging us the actual rate of the room rather than the $60 more for the large room was not a discount. She said the manager would contact me. I told her that would be appreciated. Two weeks later, not surprisingly, I have not been contacted. Someone needs to explain to these staff why the hotel industry is called hospitality, as these women are unfamiliar with the concept.

This hotel is definitely worth all 5 stars! This was the second time my husband and I spent the night there for a "staycation" and we were not disappointed. The bed was super comfortable and everything you needed in the bath was provided. Our continental breakfast was just right and was waiting at our door when we got up. We'll definitely plan on staying again in the future.

What a charming hotel. The staff are all super sweet and friendly The hotel is gorgeous, very industrial chic. They did an amazing restoration of a historic building and it shows. Beds are at the level of a 5 stay luxury hotel, maybe even better. The free breakfast was the cherry on top, and they bring it to your room every morning. Doesn’t get better than that. Keep it up team!!!!! Can’t wait to return!

We heard the pillows and beds are custom made, but can be purchased. Where would I find that information? Thank you so much.
