We had a wonderful anniversary dinner here. It was quiet and romantic, candlelit. Food was excellent: French onion soup, filet, crab cakes and twice-baked potato. The green beans were the best I have ever had anywhere. Their bread, including cinnamon roll, was a surprising treat.

We went for Easter lunch. Limited menu but nice choices, something for everyone. We ordered the steak and lamb. Both were tender and cooked exactly how we ordered it. Our waitress was friendly and attentive.

Colonial atmosphere, outstanding friendly servers, and a fireplace - not to mention fantastic prime rib. My wife's filet minion was made perfectly to her request as well. These things made our 30 year anniversary dinner quite memorable.

A great historic landmark with a fine dining restaurant. The staff were excellent and attentive without being intrusive. That being said, the food was a bit disappointing. The seafood bisque had a divine flavor but had been excessively thickened with a starch. It was more like a smooth yet, thick chowder, definitely not a bisque. My partner had a salad which had beautiful field greens but was excessively dressed, absolutely swimming in dressing. Our entrees were much better, the prime rib was cooked rare, as we asked. There was a nice side of sauteed baby green beans which were very good in flavor but arrived a little cold on the plate. A little more innovation with the menu and attention to detail in the kitchen are needed. This place is a diamond in the rough, a few tweaks and it could be amazing.

Limited seating . Staff wears 😷
They don't have too many tables. So, I'd make reservations to be safe
I once read it is called that because it was the half way point/stop from Richmond to Petersburg
If you search Photos in Google Maps you will see someone posted at least one with prices. Other Google Images searches may help too. Lunch is much cheaper than dinner. Primary dinner entrees are in $30-$45 range. Apps in $10+ range. Wine was reasonable.
You have to call and verify but am pretty sure they'll be open.
