First and foremost I would like to say that Lifeline Animal Services is very needed in the community, and I appreciate everything that they do. They are overbooked, understaffed and underpaid, just like a lot of places right now in America. The reason for my one star review however, is that I am a Veterinary Hospital Manager who had an animal that was abandoned at my practice today. When our lead Veterinarian called DeKalb county animal services today, he was told per DeKalb County officers to bring the pet to the listed address on this location. Once I arrived at the location to surrender the pet as I was told to do by DeKalb County officers, Lifeline Animal Services turned me away. The person that I was directed to speak on site told me that they had a strict no intake policy, and that our lead veterinarian had probably spoken with somebody at animal services home offices and not necessarily an animal control agent that was at the DeKalb county office. While I understand their facility being overbooked, the directors of DeKalb County animal control need to have better communication with their support services so that local veterinarian offices in the area are able to give accurate information to staff members and community members about where to take abandoned pets. The individual that I spoke with at the lifeline location essentially insinuated that it was myself and our veterinary offices fault that we would not provide free services to the cat and find it our own independent rescue. Again while I completely understand their stress, I feel that situation going forward could be alleviated by DeKalb county communicating better with their support services.

You can visit the cats & dogs separately in cages. They have numbers on cages corresponding with info sheets on each animal. When you find one that you are interested in, one of the employees will get them out for you to get to know in visiting room. Can't remember prices, but they're posted on website. All animals are spayed/neutered and have all vaccinations before they leave shelter.
Please don't waste county resources with this!!!! 99.9% of responsible dog owners will put their dog on a lease. Just ask kindly. Plus by the time they get there they'll be gone.
Depends on the circumstances, definitely give them a call!
some of the animals are free. it just depends...you have to go look.
You can just come and drop it at receiving desk providing as much information you have about the dog. There is no charge.
He is bout 6 months now I'm sure u got resident for him if not follow up
give them a call. is your dog chipped? if so, they will be calling you
Wellpet Humane in Doraville also offers low cost pet care; also try reaching out to Pet Buddies.
Hello Cristina, you have to take the cat there. On the other hand, the protocol that follows is to sterilize the cats that receive and put them back on the street, unless they are identified with a chip.
No they work with animal control but the shelter themselves don't go and get pets
Yes you will also have to show updated vacations. Does dog have a chip? If not bring photos of dog to show proof of owership.
If you're looking to do some community service at the Animal Shelter, there's a volunteer program you can sign up for. I'd call them directly for specific information.
They do not take stray cats. They will fix them, tag them and return them where you found them. I know because we found a small cat and they told us just that. They said she was sn adult. We didn't want her put back out in the wild. We were told they (cats) will find their way. We couldn't do that to her. We now have her and she's a sweetie. And... She was only about 3 mos old.. Per our vet for our other animal.
We do occasionally have rabbits available for adoption. On our website, they will be listed under our "Adopt" tab. If you see a rabbit that you would like to meet, feel free to visit the shelter.

I'm in need of help get a cage for my Chihuahua mix with poodle puppy this my first dog I have cancer and 3 stage kidneys disease and with mental health issues so my son gave me puppy! I was trying find out who can help me with get shot and check up for free for a disability person! Need help please
They are open to the public except 4 on Wednesday! It's only the staff on Wednesday! Yes u just show up and pick your new family member!
I believe they would, they can use all the help they can get
Not that I know of why? You lose your cat?
Where you live
Call the police.
They are not accepting dogs or cats at this time. The facility is seriously overcrowded. I personally is fostering 2 cats. You find a animal, they treat it..you foster it til it is adopted.
You can volunteer in a lot of fun ways at your age (for instance making enrichment), but you have to be at least 16 to handle the animals. Definitely have your parents reach out to the shelter and volunteer coordinator so you can learn more. Thank you for wanting to volunteer! That shows a lot of heart and selflessness!
You can use the website to see what current animals they have.
Go on the website and check
Yes
I am not sure but when I went they was waving the adoption fee for all pets. You would have to go down there in person.
Yes usually 85 dollars sometimes they have special and it's less If adopting a dog Apts do have breed restrickstoons
YES MAMA THERE IS, SO NOW MAY I ASK WHAT'S THE PROBLEM MY DOG WAS AT THE DOG POUND
So a No Kill She does not mean that literally. It just means that they keep the percentage low I think it 17% or lower.
The Chamblee Dunwoody Rd location will take in strays. The other Life Line locations may refuse them.
Nothing free about this place
It depends they have specials often and senior special prices. Give them a call.
Yes, I cant remember how much but its under a $100
No they don't take cash
Stray cats can be trapped, neutered and then returned to where they were trapped. If they are friendly, they can be put up for adoption, but ones that are too feral have to be placed back where trapped. Law prevents cats from being removed.
you do. Put the bird in the garbage or in the brush away from the porch so you don't smell it rotting.
Check out getyourpet.com My girlfriend had to rehome her dog before and we were able to find a good family to take her from the people on three. I suggest you give it a try if you have doubts with the animal shelter
Fill out an application online and make appointment to visit the dog or cat
I have no idea if you do it online. The process was to find the friend you wanted, fill out the app which takes like 2mins then itll send them a email. They'll approve it then yall go from there. So in-person it took like 5mins.
Ask them.
Yes you will have to fill out some paperwork and they will accept your surrender, there's no type of uneasy tension or judgement the staff is very friendly, I'm sorry you have to give up your pet, but they will make sure it goes to a good home.
Yep they will. Try and get as many donations as you can to help out as well. Things like towels, blankets, paper towel /tissue rolls, old newspaper go a long way. They are working with limited resources.
They do have an intake department yes.
Yes please take the cat to the dekalb county animal shelter. It's a no kill shelter and they can help either find the owner or find a great forever home.
I'm so sorry you're dealing with that. I'd recommend calling them to find out.
Appts preferred but do have a walk up waiting list
Mostly dogs and cats but other animals too. I've seen Rabbits Goats, pigs and other animals there also
Not sure but a great question .. You can call them and ask and get to talk to a real person and if so then there u go... All the answers u need. Are right there.good luck. I knowthey will guide uin thatdirection. A australian sheperd isa dog sure to please u . they areeasy trained and smarter than lassie
Call and make an official complaint and report if speaking with the owners hasn't produced any results. But definitely try and speak with the owners first.
I'd call them first. Depending on how much you have will determine where you drop off.
No, not me. I hope you find his owner.
I couldn't give him up. My maltese is doing better, allergy meds is helpful
That depends on your complex. Most apts only allow 2 animals with huge pet deposits. Check with them. Also check and see what types of dogs they allow.
I work there and no we don't guess. Instead of playing a guessing game and the animal don't get adopted because of the breed. We put MIXED BREED. So then the animal is accepted in apartment's or living situation. Then they can't be discriminant on
Give them a call they offer various services
kittens get adopted pretty quick...call animal control..they can help
no there is for dogs not for cats
You need to inform them that the pet isn't in your care and then forward the information to your father so that he can register the pet in his name.
Its a no kill shelter that I am aware of my friend works there
If you live in Dekalb county then you can surrender the dog by bringing it in in person.
Call them to get specifics. You need to make a appointment to surrender a animal.
If DCAS can't help try AWARE Wildlife or the Atlanta Audubon Society.
If you're adopting, it's included in the cost of adopting.
Today is a National holiday so they have a skeleton crew doing animal maintenance and probably no one manning the phones
I adopted day of, but I physically went to the shelter.
They do take dogs from owners. If you can't take care of them anymore or whatever the circumstance
Tons of dog boarding facilities available in area. https://m.yelp.com/search?cflt=petboarding&find_loc=Dekalb+County%2C+GA
Why can't you take him or find him a new home?
They have all breeds, and even a room dedicated to the smaller and younger pups. The best way to preview is by using the website and filtering based on your preferences. For true availability, though, it is best to go to the shelter and meet your new pet in person.
DeKalb county is run by a non profit no kill group called lifeline . The motto of lifeline is to make Atlanta a no kill city. They do euthanize sick and aggressive animals.
While we are humane and will take good care of your dog, i will suggest getting a pet friendly apartment. They can help you spay and neuter him and find pet friendly housing. Keep your pup with you.
Absolutely Elizabeth. We accept volunteers 18 and over to help socialize our dogs and cats. We also need help with cleaning, laundry, fostering and off-site events. Please follow this link to begin volunteering. https://lifelineanimal.org/how-to-help/volunteer/volunteer-opportunities
Depends on the county law. It is illegal in DeKalb county and you can/should notify animal services if you see a violation.
If you know where the dog lives then I'd suggest talking with them first. If the dog gets loose again then contact animal control.
You can call animal control but i dont know.
I'm sorry you are having trouble finding your dog. Please come in and speak with Azure at the front desk (intake door) and she can try to help look everything up in our system. If you cannot find your dog when you walk thru, we will need some type of address to look into the situation.
I JUST adopted a female GSD and there was another one in isolation (as of July 18).
You have to live in Dekalb County. I don't believe they charge I brought a kitten in to them I had found in Dekalb County - I did not pay anything. They are partnered with Lifeline - animal lovers!
Please contact our front desk at 404-294-2949.
Google lifeline animal services. They have a couple of locations where you can drop the kitten off.
yes before they are released for adoption all dogs are vaccinated and spade/neutered.
Hi Kita, please visit the shelter as soon as possible to find your missing dog.
Cindy, sorry about your pet. Google guides really know very little about the day to day operations. Call them, or go by. Good luck!
Are you missing a dog that fits this description? If so, please visit the shelter ASAP. Walking through the shelter in person is the best way to identify and reclaim your lost pup.
Give the shelter a call. Im sure they could help with that information
take him to your county shelter or rescue preferably a no kill shelter
I would call animal services...sure it is a coon, not a o'possum? Put some dog food out for it in the meantime...probably hungry!
I don't speak on behalf of the shelter but I gather its because an unfixed animal is a liability. We are overwhelmed with stray and surrendered animals in this city and simply do not have the resources to care for them. Hundreds of dogs are euthanized across the country on a daily basis at the taxpayers expense. The best way to address the issue is to encourage people to do the responsible thing and fix their pets. There simply isn't a viable reason not to. There is financial assistance available for this purpose. Donation dog houses should go to people who are willing to be responsible pet owners.
Police dogs attacked your wife? There are a lot of unknowns in your message. Clarify?
Yes. DEKALB has an ordinance that says animals can't be chained. They have to be on a run. They also can not bark for more than 30 min increments during the hours of 7am to 11pm and none at night. Call animal control
If you're asking me, I really wish I could help you. Unless Clesha gave the dog's name, date turned in, and the breed, you may have a tough time finding her. There are a lot of dogs that go through there, but if you at least have a 'turn in' date, then maybe the shelter could source by female pregnant dogs turned in on that day/week. I don't know what other info they could provide, though. Another family may have already made her a part of their family. -- The dog I adopted (a male) is so dear to me, I can't imagine someone asking for him back especially after so long. Perhaps you could adopt another dog and save another life. It may take a coupme trips to find the right one, but it would be worth it! My heart's with you all, and good luck!
Tried feeding, petting, walking and spending time with your fur kid?
Only a terrible owner would subject any animal to that.
They are working toward no-kill status. That is the goal, but they are not there yet.
Their Facebook page is the number one place to find great pictures and videos of their adoptable animals.
No it isn't free but if you call and ask they may have modified prices for people who can't pay but not at the shelter. It mostly be non profits and their process is long to verify income.
That would be something you should ask them. But from my point of view, these folks are working to make a living. Not a charity.
Yes call the shelter and if it's not there they can call around for you
I am not sure but the best thing is to call them and ask. I imagine they would.
