Had a great camping experience here. Worth the wait, book 6 months out for best weekends. Fold over grill on the fire pits. (See photo)

Went during off season. Very nice campground, large sites, awesome location. Sites are close together but not as bad as a state park. Really nice trail that takes you from the campground to the lakeshore (approx 1.2 miles one way) Would recommend.

I wish we had more time at this campground. It was exceptional! Large quiet sites, gorgeous wooded surroundings and super clean bathrooms. We also loved the wooded walk down to the beach, the bird song was incredible. Highly recommend!

Had a vacation place about 1.5 hours from there, so I'm very familiar with the area. Finally had a chance to stay 2 weeks, and, although admittedly bias (home state), there is so much to do and see, and if you fish, boat, canoe or kayak, wow.

You basically show up at the campground on the morning that you want to stay. Be warned that this place is very famous so if you want a spot there, you need to be quite early. Every evening, around 5pm they post a list of the campsites that will be available the next day. If there's nothing, you obviously won't spend the night but if there are sites for the next day, plenty of people bring their camping chairs, phone with charger and a blanket and spend the night there. They open at 7 if I remember correctly. Once you get a spot, you can reserve it for as many days as allowed (14?). The advantage is that there's wifi at the rangers' station and a restroom but be warned that you would be outside (some people wait in their car and just plop their gear in line). I normally reserve a night in any site and then show up to try to change it for something available for the amount of days I want to stay. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
They may not be open until spring to reserve. I would look on their website to see when you can reserve the spaces. Make sure you go to the mouth of the Platte river where it empties into lake Michigan. One of my favorite places in michigan!
No, not in this area.
No. This campground is for tents, campers, or RVs. They don't have cabins for rent and you can't rent tents or camping gear here.
There are no sites near the water. There is a one mile walking trail to Make Michigan.
This campground was called Benzie County Campground at one time.
Yes. Loop 4 is non electric, mostly tents. Also quite a few walk in secluded sites available.

Unfortunately there is not
33.00 per site. None are on the River.
Camping is allowed in designated.camp grounds only.
Frankfurt has several nice cafes and bars that have wifi, Do not recall anything in Empire that we've visited that did. I bet the public library would however
I would go with overall since it is used for pad size in the camp ground.
Yes you can use your own tubes/kayak...you drop your equipment off, pay $10 for ride back up, drive down to beach to park your car...van will pick you up for ride up to the store where u put in to float down the river
Standard 32 a night with electric , might be cheaper for tent. We were there last week
Yes, the campground is pet friendly, but as anywhere else they asked that you clean up after your pet and keep them on a leash... it is a lovely Campground
you can check on there web site. we stayed there but don't remember the cost.
Yes, there definitely is. Along the coast of lake Michigan theres a couple of designated spots and they are very long stretches of beach. The park rangers can gibe you a map with the exact locations but if you are abdecent hiker, you can definitely walk there from the campsite.
$22/26/31 summer 2019. Check availability and type at https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232458/campsites
Between Memorial Day and Labor day the park only allows 14 TOTAL days per site owner. Not 14 consecutive days but 14 total. I know this because i tried it this year and was told by the park.
The trails are. Some of the beaches do not allow dogs.
Part of one loop is open year round with showers. Each of the sites has power.
Yes, double dump pull through with fresh water fill also. I believe they have 30 and 50 amp sites. Make your reservations early!
