We use our own kayaks, but these friendly folks will give you a lift for a small fee so you can park your car at the park where your paddle ends. The store has a lot of great things. The Platte River is magnificent.

The river trips are good, but the river is very crowded. The staff was friendly, organized, and motivated. The prices were high, but probably aligned with the demand of tourist season (the place was very busy). The gift shop has some helpful items like hats, sunglasses, spf shirts, and water shoes people could buy and the prices seemed reasonable. The gift shop is also full of breakable items and there are many signs for "do not touch" and "you break it you buy it". But everyone has to go through the gift shop to pay! I was very watchful of my kids for walking through. We probably won't return because of how crowded the river was and our desire to have a more scenic and restful river trip.

This place is great! The ice cream is great they're thrift shop is great and their prices are great. This is one of my favorite places to go kayaking I would like to warn that I have spotted a snapping turtle right by the docks several times now so be careful but have a great timeWe appreciate your great, great, great review, Jack! Our ice cream is the perfect way to finish off your day of kayaking. Thank you for advising- we will all keep our eye out for the snapper.

Wonderful staff! Saw young men picking up litter at El Dorado when delivering boats. Ladies in store welcomed niece’s dog with treats’. Counter people helped set up best float equipment and trip details for our group. Awesome ice cream! And lots of necessary items for purchase in store. Firewood costs a bit more but generous amount of dry wood that burned hot! Even dog could go onboard!!!

We are not getting notifications that we are getting questions but thought I would post for future reference. Our hours vary a little. But generally in the fall we are at least open 9-6, 7 days a week until mid-October. It is best to call, our date of closing varies from year to year. Trips start when we open and will vary on the last one sent out depending on the trip. Equipment needs to be back at least 1/2 hour before closing time.
Yes, it's super calm and you can get a solid bottom tube.
No there's just not enough room in the parking lot especially if there are other cars what you can do is go to the other side of the river and go down lake Michigan Road and you can park anywhere down there.
We have only a single person paddle board to go down the river. It is 41.00 this year for the 2.5 hour trip. Feel free to call the store 231.325.5622. Open from 8 am to 9 pm currently. I personally love to paddleboard the river. If you are looking for a 2 person, think about the 2 person kayak.
Consider going early or late when you are not in the direct afternoon sun.
If you want to kayak or canoe, it’s about an 1 1/2 to 2 hours. A large inflatable boat raft takes 3 to 4. We don’t send tubes that far since you have a lake to get across. Some people with private tubes will do that. It’s can take upwards of 7 hours. If you are tubing one of the trips we do we offer a one hour Loon and Walk and a 2 hours weir to Lake Michigan float (taking 3 hours due to high water levels). And due to high water levels a shorter float in a tube of about 1 1/2 hours. If you have any questions please feel free to call us. (6.5 miles total kayak trip by water 2 1/2 by road)
It runs on a schedule. During the weekends a shuttle runs every 5-10 minutes
No they don't.
Tracy, neither of the trips we offer for tubing go through Loon lake. The 1 hour starts at the store and ends just before the lake with a 5 to 10 minute walk through the woods back. The 2 hour starts at the weir. It does have a 10 to 15 minute walk into the river and you float to the beach. We do vehicle shuttling with you for this trip so your car is at the beach ending point.
I believe it's $16 for a tube with no center, and $18 per tube with a center.
Shuttle is included. Park Pass for parking is not. National Park has a user fee for the area. 20.00 for a week or 40 for an annual. The 2 hour trip is 16 or 18 dollars. The one hour is 9 or 11. The cheaper of the tubes has a hole so your bottom gets wet. The other has a bottom in it.
They require their equipment to be returned by 9:00 PM or so, so the latest you could go out is around 6:00.
The Stocklen’s owned it the longest.
The Platte River has all kinds of visitors from families with small children to groups of adults who drink responsibly. Alcoholic beverages are allowed on the river although the National Park Service does restrict any glass containers. The rangers will even sometimes do spot checks on coolers.
You may have dogs with you in our equipment or while on the river. The National Park service does restrict dogs down at the end of your trip so your dog will need to go right to your vehicle.
Yes, we did. They dropped off and picked us up. Great place. Very helpful
