While the cave was very pretty to explore, (took my husband and I roughly 40 minutes to get through, and that was us taking our time and talking to the guides along the way) it is a little too expensive for my liking. Almost 20 per person, plus 10$ for a black light flashlight and the gift shop is pretty high in price for items as well. Kind staff made it a neat experience though.

An exceptional cave, displaying the earthly wonder world and teaching us the geological and evolution history. It’s thrilling to walk in a relatively large cave. Display boards and the stationed staff provide more educational insights ! Don’t forget to see the colorful display of the “time machine and transformation of various minerals” while in the dark. An educational exhibit, no the geological history, for the entire family. Good approach roads and plenty of car parking at the facility.

This was a fun experience that is worth a day trip for! We went on a cold and rainy day, which prevented us from having a picnic and hiking around the park like we originally planned, but the cave was tons of fun and still made the trip worth it. We spent about an hour in the cave on the self guided tour.

My first cave, was a very pretty cave. I highly recommend getting a black light and a bag, worth it in my opinion. Not very claustrophobic place, there was only one spot we needed to turn sideways to get through but most of it is very open and the whole thing has a walkway. Staff was very friendly. Our guide was knowledgeable.

Yes, but tour is at least an hour and is well done.
Yes the stairs do have handrails and the tour is slow and us elderly with issues can keep up easily.
Yes, you do have to wear a face covering in the cave and buildings. You do not need to wear masks on our free surface trails and gardens, or using the gem and fossil mining sluice outdoors as sluice bags can all be purchased curbside. We sell paper masks for $1. If you prefer to not wear a mask, you will need to delay your cave visit until a future time when masks are no longer required, and we realize that some may choose this option.
Yes. Great people work there. Nice looking fossils for sale. Books. Shirts. Rocks. Other stuff.
Adults $17.95 and children $9.95 for the tour but they have different activities and prices you should visit the website
The Cave of the Mounds tour admission is $10.95 for children (ages 4 - 12) and $18.95 for adults. Children 3 and under are free. Open year 'round There are no parking or other park entrance fees, and there are a number of free activities like the hiking trails, barn fossil hunt, geologic timeline and garden strolls. Additionally, there is a gift shop, snack bar, and beer and wine available for a separate charge
Yes, to get into Cave of the Mounds, there is a fee that can be found on our website.
We do have trails to hike around (not long trails, less than a mile long each). One of the trails goes through our wooded Oak Savanna. The other is a trail that takes you on an educational adventure about karst typography. Both are outside and spacious. In the cave, it is not so much a hike. We have concrete paths with railings for a nice stroll through geologic time to see wonders that took thousands of years for nature to create. There is one somewhat narrow spot that most people just turn sideways as they walk through but there is an alternative route if a person doesn't feel comfortable walking through that narrow spot. It is certainly not the longest cave in the world, so it can be considered small in comparison to Mammoth Cave. Despite its size, it is absolutely beautiful inside. We are considered a "jewel box" of caves the variety and delicacy of our formations.
A little over $10.00. A remarkable place to visit.
The admission cost for the one hour Cave Tour is $18.95 for adults, $10.95 for youth, and kids 3 and under are free. There is no additional cost for park admission and parking is free. In addition, there are a variety of free activities on site. Plus there are gemstone mine and fossil dig activities that have a nominal cost for the gemstone specimens. Cave of the Mounds is open daily year round.
There is one part of the passage that gets narrow. I'm not sure if it will fit. Also, they discourage taking backpacks or bags into the cave as well. Best bet is to call them and ask.
All tours are self-paced, which means that you don't stay with a tour guide on the tour, you can follow the path with your family or friends at your own pace. The pathway is easy to follow and there are interpretive printed signs throughout the cave to help you learn about it. Also there are cave educators stationed throughout the cave to answer questions and tell you more. You can not explore off of the trail for the protection of the cave. On average people take about 35-45 minutes in the cave, but you are welcome to let others pass and stay longer. Most people spend 2-3 hours in the park as we offer many outdoor nature activities like mining for gems and fossils, geode cracking, hiking trails, rock and perennial gardens and picnic areas.
