Is the office taking applications for 1 bedrooms or efficiency apartments

dana gann | Sep 30, 2019
Harrisburg Housing Authority Administration Building | Sep 30, 2019

For our low-income housing apartments (aka public housing), we are accepting applications. Please note, however, that our 1 bedroom apartments have the largest number of applicants on our waiting list. The wait time can vary, however, with over 350 families on the 1 bedroom list, the wait can be 1 or 2 years. For our housing choice voucher program (aka section 8), the waiting list is closed. Thank you for your question. HHA Management

Can I still sign up for housing or section 8 if I’m pregnant?!

Kourtney Edrington | Sep 30, 2019
Harrisburg Housing Authority Administration Building | Sep 30, 2019

Pregnancy will never prohibit anyone from being eligible for public housing or the housing choice voucher (Sec. 8) program. However, with the exception of our military veteran's waiting list, the waiting list for our housing choice voucher program is currently closed. Thus, no one is able to apply for a voucher right now. Thank you for the question.

The housing choice voucher is a lottery they pick like 70 something people every year. The best way to describe it is they put everybody's name in something and they pick names out.

HHA has specific rules regarding extensions. Therefore, please contact the Housing Choice Voucher office to address your specific circumstances. Thank you for the question.

I've recently applied for section 8, but when I called the Erie office they weren't accepting any applicants so they redirected me to the Corry office and I got approved for the voucher, but its for out side of erie..how can I get it get transfered?

Daniel Ferguson | Sep 30, 2018
Harrisburg Housing Authority Administration Building | Sep 30, 2019

For this type of issue, it really depends on the policies established by the organizations (via their respective administrative plans). You should contact both organizations and determine what conditions are acceptable for a transfer (a port). Thank you for the question.

How do i know when the list is open

Maria Cruz | Sep 30, 2018
Harrisburg Housing Authority Administration Building | Sep 30, 2018

The Harrisburg Housing Authority will be opening its Section 8 wait list on August 27-28, 2018. It will be strictly an online process unless reasonable accommodations are necessary. Moreover, it will be a lottery.

Is section 8 taking applications

Teresa Carter | Sep 30, 2018

Do you help with immediate housing placement need help asap or will be homeless.

Steelkitty 50 | Sep 30, 2018
Harrisburg Housing Authority Administration Building | Sep 30, 2019

Unfortunately, HHA is not a rapid-rehousing entity. We do provide preference points to individuals that are homeless. However, HHA has a waitlist for the limited vacant housing that we manage and a closed-waitlist for our housing choice voucher program. Please take a look at the list of organizations provided in the following link: https://www.homelessshelterdirectory.org/cgi-bin/id/city.cgi?city=Harrisburg&state=PA

How can I apply for low income?

Jada Locus | Sep 30, 2018
Harrisburg Housing Authority Administration Building | Sep 30, 2018

For income eligible housing, you can apply at HHA's Leasing and Occupancy office located at 2101 North Front Street.

How do you find out where you at in the waitlist for section 8

yamari valencia | Sep 30, 2018
Harrisburg Housing Authority Administration Building | Sep 30, 2018

HHA's HCV office will be able to assist you. Please stop by the office and speak with someone at the customer service desk.

How long do you have to wait on the waiting list section 8) for them to call you

yamari valencia | Sep 30, 2018
Harrisburg Housing Authority Administration Building | Sep 30, 2018

Unfortunately, our Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) waitlist is currently closed. Every 2-3 years, HHA tries to open the wait list up via a lottery. Although HHA would prefer that no one has to wait for any lengthy period, if you are currently on the previous lottery wait list, then it is reasonable to assume that you may be on the wait list up to 2-3 years. If you are on the closed wait list, our advice is to contact the HCV office and find out what your current wait list position is.

is the hha funded by the city or state or is it privately owned

Marion ISOM | Sep 30, 2018
Harrisburg Housing Authority Administration Building | Sep 30, 2018

The Harrisburg Housing Authority is primarily funded through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), a federal agency.

I want to transfer my section 8 from nyc to Harrisburg how Toni do that

Nzinga Richards | Sep 30, 2018
Harrisburg Housing Authority Administration Building | Sep 30, 2018

Make a request to your local HCV (Sec. 8) office to "port" your voucher to another jurisdiction (in this case Harrisburg). They will direct you and also contact HHA's HCV office in order to process the porting of your voucher.

How long do you have to wait on the waitlist?

yamari valencia | Sep 30, 2017
Harrisburg Housing Authority Administration Building | Sep 30, 2018

HHA has two primary programs for rental housing, Low-Income Public Housing (LIPH) and Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) (commonly referred to as Section 8). Each program has its own waitlist. For HCV, the waitlist is closed and no date is presently set to reopen the list. For LIPH, the list is open. So, if you apply for housing and are placed on the waitlist, the wait time depends on the number of bedrooms that you have requested. Some apartments, e.g., 1 bedroom apartments, are much more in demand and, therefore, the wait time is significantly longer than other apartments. In general, you can expect anywhere from 3 months to 3 years depending on the type of apartment.

Can you help me buy a house

susan Martin | Sep 30, 2017
Harrisburg Housing Authority Administration Building | Sep 30, 2018

Unless you are currently a participant in one of our programs, unfortunately, we can not assist you. You might want to contact the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA). PHFA has homeownership programs that might suit your needs. Good luck!
