This man is a wizard. I had my first eye completed with crosslinking and lasek, the recovery was surprisingly painless. He developed a protocol thats designed to eliminate risks during healing. edit (9/15/22): I'll add Dr. Chynn and his team are available pretty much 24/7 via whatsapp to answer appropriate questions [i Just had a post op question and he answered within minutes, apparently from Italy] Going for my first follow up, but my vision has improved dramatically and seems to be improving every day. I didn't realize how bad my vision was, and really I'm sad I didn't know about this treatment or solution sooner in my life. My case was complex due to having severe keratoconus, however Dr. Chynn was able to stabilize with crosslinking (suggested by every opthomologist I consulted, std of treatment), but his experience all I had consults with a few other Opthomologists, who all recommended the crosslinking, however Dr Chynn advised me we could also get some improvement by also reshaping the cornea where there was adequate thickness to do so, and he had experience doing many thousands of cases to know how to approach this combination of treatment. I knew I wasn't a candidate to get to 20/20, but the difference so far after initial healing is dramatic.

Is ReadingVision (form of Monovision) recommended if we do a lot of strenuous activity and late night driving?

You have to add up all the hours you use your eyes for near, like reading, computer, phone Then compare that to all the hours per week you drive a car at night for 99% of New Yorkers, the former VASTLY outnumbers the latter Another way of thinking about this is as follows: would you rather do both eyes for distance and then need to use readers 10 hours/day or do 1 eye for near, and then need to use night drivers for a few hours per WEEK? You can also call my office and ask to do a CONTACT LENS TRIAL FOR MONOVISION 85% of patients accept monovision, including myself and my Patient Coordinator the other 15% do not have an eye that is very dominant, is the problem hope this helps, and thanks for asking here, not by email, so other people see my answer, you are a VERY SMART patient, and i LOVE those as they do BETTER because they follow my directions TO THE LETTER :)

How soon can we get lasek after the free consultation? Is it better to schedule consultation closer to when we want to get the surgery in case of changes in eye sight?

Hi Cindy, I'm the new Practice Manager. It's possible to get LASEK as soon as the day after your initial consult, but you would need to call the office to prepare for that. It is preferrable to schedule your surgery within a couple months of your consult, as additional testing may be needed if you delay longer than that. But best to review those questions and timing with the Doctor during the consult to provide you with the best and safest plan for your eyes based on your current prescription and eye health. We look forward to talking to you and giving you the safest, no-cut, perfect vision!

How is LASEK safer than LASIK? In a case of thinner cornea or dry eyes, how is LASEK better? Thank you.

Good answer by one of my patients!:) LASEK is non-cutting, unlike LASIK, which I had myself in 1999. LASIK involves cutting a flap in your cornea, which causes 3 things: 1) some dry eyes as this kills most of your corneal nerves, so your blink rate is abnormal (prolonged), 2) some night glare bc your cornea afterwards is in 2 pieces that don't ever fully heal, and 3) increased risk of trauma for the rest of your life, so if you get poked in the eye at area where these 2 pieces meet, your flap can come back up, and sometimes get torn off By skipping the flap-cutting step of LASIK, LASEK prevents dry eyes, night glare, and is much safer during the procedure and also afterwards, and virtually eliminates the chance of ectasia or iatrogenic keratoconus postop (the worst complication after LASIK, for which you might need a corneal transplant) LASEK can also safely treat much higher prescriptions than LASIK can, again because by not cutting a flap the MD has much more tissue to work with
