Enjoyable wagon ride with a long stop at the turnaround. Plenty of time for some light hiking and exploring and for a picnic lunch.

This is an amazing place to visit. It is carry in so bring a lunch. If you would like to ride in I suggest Newcombe Farm. They are amazing and can accommodate larger groups. Just call ahead.

A fascinating place. But first, a word about getting there. You park at the gate house. From there, it's five miles to the Great Camp buildings. You can walk, bike (no e-bikes allowed), or - when it's running - pay $30 for a horse-drawn wagon ride. It's a smooth gravel road, but just keep the distance in mind. At the Great Camp proper, there's the main house building and several other buildings. You can tour them yourself or there are interpretative tours on a schedule. There are photos and historical information but no furnishings. The setting of the house is absolutely beautiful. This is what you came to the Adirondacks for. There are great views from the house. You can walk around the area of the house, or there's a longer (5 miles?) trail around the lake. There's also primitive camping sites available - see their Website for full details.

Lovingly restored Great Camp on remote, beautiful Newcomb Lake.

You do have to carry it in but you can take the horse drawn wagon in water or use a water filter with the lake water
