This DC classic is just that — a classic. That doesn’t mean it’s overrated. The food is delicious, and the service has always been great. I recommend the beef bourguignon, the steak tartare, the farmers cheese, and the millefeuille.

After 4 years of being in DC, I finally tried Le Diplomate. I really don’t understand the hype and people constantly talking about it! The restaurant is beautiful and the vibe is great!! Their bread was reasonable too, but man, the dishes were soooo sooo sooo bad! I ordered steak frites. It was super salty, the beef quality was so bad and the dishes didn’t feel clean. I’m not a picky eater and I couldn’t finish my small dish. The frites were so salty too. Really, it’s hard to mess up French fries…. By far Macdonald french fries tastes better than theirs. My husband got the half a chicken, it was pretty mediocre. It wasn’t terrible but it was as good as wholefoods rotisserie chicken with extra $ signs! 😅 I don’t recommend this restaurant cause the food quality kills the hype.

I’ve visited le diplomate twice in the past 3 months for brunch. Both times they completely messed up our order and/or delivered lukewarm or cold food. I have been a customer here for over 10 years and their post-COVID service and delivery doesn’t come close to their price point. If you have a big group (8+ people) you’ll be fine as the wait staff has a big tip coming. If you have 2-5 people don’t bother, you’ll receive sub par service. Go get a Le Big Mac at McDonalds instead - you’ll be more satisfied for the price point.

Yes, there is valet parking, at least in the evenings and on weekends.
Masks, temperature checks, and spacing between people. They have a lot more outdoor seating and any indoor seating is very separated.

The outdoor chalets are new, and like separate stalls with tables, so you are more isolated from others. They are heated as well (we just had brunch there this past weekend in one of the chalets). The outdoor seating is the regular outdoor patio area which is covered to help with the chilly temps, but shared space outdoors. Hope that helps!

Not easily. You can get close but it's still an Uber ride away. The nearest redline stop might be Dupont at 17th. Diplomante is on 14th & up a few blocks. Check Google maps & price Uber or cab ride there & back.

As much as I like Le Dip... No, they do not have the best filet mignon in town. A few steak houses in the area that are better (dry aging, quality of cuts, technique, etc.) For 38 dollars though, this place does serve a good quality mignon.
