The pups and I love coming here. The trail is always busy, but not crowded, and the pet owners have always been respectful of maintaining distance and asking before allowing the dogs to socialize. This is a wonderful park with clean restrooms at the entrance, at least one trash can on the trail and plenty of benches along the trail to stop and rest. The covered path is a wonderful retreat from the sun on a warm day, there are plenty of beautiful spots to take family photos and walking along the stream is very relaxing. When it gets really busy the line can be 30 or more cars waiting to enter and park. I have never had the patience to wait it out but signs say it is approximately 45 mins. You really couldn't ask for a better park with no entrance fee.

Love this park! Especially the bridle trails since I ride horses more than I hike. It's like a micro climate environment in the Piedmont region (edge of where the coastal plains and Piedmont meet "fall zone"). You feel like you're in the Western side of NC mountain region.

Great place to enjoy many different activities. On this visit, we hiked the Campbell Creek Loop Trail. Walked over 7 miles in total. Bring a bottle of water if you go on this hike and wear sensible hiking shoes. Nice trail to get away from the world for a while. Commune with nature. It's a good place to clear your mind. And who doesn't enjoy all the State Parks North Carolina has to offer? On to Jordan Lake next. Don't forget that San-Lee Park is right down the road. Happy trails!

Went hiking at Raven Rock for the first time and it was a great day. Many of the trails are 2 to 4 miles and relatively easy, though there are some hills that have steps built in to the earth. The overlook was great and the river was …

Yes they have a picnic area with bathrooms and the grills are scarce. I'd recommend bring your own.
The route we took did not take us through any mountains.
Bike Trails are back opened as of a few days ago. New improvements were made which is why they were closed. Always call the visitor center for answers regarding the park - not Google.
We went to the fish traps it's a pretty good place to swim and sit in the rapids. On down the river in Lillington you can rent kayaks and tubes
Yes, the northern fish trail has awesome swimming, the ground is all rocks so be careful of slipping. You can slide down them as well
You cannot metal detect in any North Carolina State Park.
Clarifying a comment below: Camping is not limited due to COVID. Call the Park Office if you have questions. https://www.ncparks.gov/raven-rock-state-park/camping
Yes, need to keep them leashed.. just clean up after.. pets would love this place..
Campbell loop trail and raven rock loop and there are small off shoot trails on both of those. Across the river there are 2 4 milie trails/horse paths. And the mountain bike trail you can hike is 6 miles. Great trails and only the Campbell trail is rated moderate. The rest are rated easy. NC state parks has great links to every nc state park including trail details and maps
You can't take anything from the park including plants, animals and fossils.
Hi Sean. The best way to get park information is to call the park directly and speak with staff. All of the park's trails are natural surfaces which means loose rocks, roots, steps, and creek crossings. Most of the trails are therefore not safely accessible. The Moccasin Branch Campground does have two accessible sites, sites 22 and cabin 3. The Campground does fill up with reservations quickly so I would be aware and keep an eye on the reservation website. Wheelchairs can also access areas like the visitor center and Longleaf Loop Trail behind the visitor center (0.20 miles long), but that will be about it. Hope this information helps!
Raven Rock State Park does not have long term living sites.
You can make a camping reservation for a maximum of 14 days in NC State Parks. Information is on the Reserve America Website when you go to make your reservation.
There are two 4-mile loops for the horse riders. You cannot camp at the Bridle Trails. Those are just for day-use only. Camping options are on the southside of the river and information is on the Reserve America website when you make your reservation.
The park has a welcome center with public bathroom. The camp ground has a bathhouse that is very big, heated, clean and has showers.
Not on the trails but around the park a little yes
Not recommended here.
Hey Sam. There are no designated swimming areas at Raven Rock State Park due to the dramatic changes in river levels through this stretch of the Cape Fear. It is not recommended by any staff as there are multiple water rescues a month. If you're wanting to get your feet wet, there are 6 different creeks that run in different areas across the park and along several trails. Little Creek Loop is a good one and not too bad of a hike, whereas Campbell Creek is larger and more difficult but does also have the creek along half of the loop. And just to clarify from another comment below, there are no kayak put-ins in Raven Rock State Park. There is canoe-in camping as an option, but the park doesn't have boats to rent out nor does it have a put-in for boats. Most people plan their trips to launch before the Buckhorn Dam or from Lillington where there is a public wildlife boat ramp.
Hi Mr. Pearce. Raven Rock State Park has 11 primitive backpacking sites and a relatively new campground that has opened up. The best way to see what amenities sites have and to make reservations is to go to the park's website and go through the steps to make a reservation. Hope this helps!
Hi Tim, The amenities for Cabins and Campsites can be found on the reservation website when you go to make your reservations. Stay tuned for a campground opening date. The cabins do not have a kitchen and the restrooms are in the bathhouse building, not inside each cabin.
The park is free admission. The only thing they charge for is overnight camping by reservations only. If the weekend forecast is sunny, go as early as possible. There will be a long wait line to get into the park.
The odds are very high
Insure to check the army Corp of engineers website to see the river level prior to going to fish traps if level is to high you will not be able to access them
Yes it is, the stairs near the peak is a bit tight but plenty of people do it and your dog will love it
Yes...the intensity just depends on the time of year and recent rain fall amount. Its also not "falls" as you might expect in the mountains bit more of a rapids bit still very pretty and enjoyable.
Unfortunately, not very many. If one can walk 1 mile or so (round trip), or have someone push a wheelchair, a nice overlook of the cape fear river can be seen. I have also seen a flock of 2 dozen wild turkeys crossing the park road near the visitor center. There are short paved and level dirt trails near the visitor center.
No RV camping here
Yes. You can go to ncstatepark website for hours and any trail closings, etc..
When u pull into the park there is more than one parking lot u will see the first parking lot keep going by and there is a visitors center just a little further down
Yes. That was due to the stormy weather we had and the river was up high.
Park is completely closed until October 1 at a minimum
Lanier Falls is roughly 5 miles from the Visitors Center and it's more of a rapids than a waterfall.
This Park is Free and it is awesome!
Last time I went I put a rope in at the falls to make it easier to cross but last time I was walking thru the water with no footwear and got a piece of a shell n my foot poured blood the 3 mile hike back but yes u can go in the water Just make sure u have a plan if u fall because it will be a really bad few seconds in the currents, never been to the fish traps tho juet Lanier falls, the walk. Is about 1.7 miles n and about the same out if you come. I'm by the picnic area and take the trail that leads. U to the fish traps and stay left if u go to the Lanier falls. Trail it is like 2.5 miles n which is a really great trail as well but if u take the first trail u will come to an end of trail sign just keep going it has a footpath u will cross over a tree overhanging a creek and keep right after that
Not the best place for fishing. It's a long hike to the water from anywhere in the park. However if you really want to fish try San-Lee park just outside of Sanford N.C. it's just a short ride from Raven Rock. It's a beautiful park that let's you fish and rent paddle boats, feed ducks or enjoy a nice walk.
