Big , well separated sites. Big beautiful trees. Nice clean pit toilets. No showers .

Great Boondocking campground. The sites are spaced far apart and plenty of shade. Didn't try the pit toilets as we are self-contained. Tall pines in a forest/beach area. Some sites have trails to the beach, if your's doesn't, then there is a trail located next to the Camp Host's site. Really beautiful area and we would come back if the weather was cool. There were mosquitos, so be sure to have some good repellent.

This is a beautiful CG in the Hiawatha Nat'l Forest, just 3 miles west of Munising for $22/night. The dirt road in is a bit pot-holed, but not too bad. They have 2 loops with dumpsters, spigots, and vault toilets in each. No hookups. There's a dump station with fresh water. There's also a grass picnic area right on Lake Superior with a short trail that lead to the remains of Bay Furnance, an old iron ore furnace from the 1870s. The sites are mostly wooded, and there are some low hanging branches over the road. If you need solar or are a big rig, I'll qoute Ole Red's post from 2019, "... several sites that have full sun (#6, 7, 24, 25 & 49) . . . best sites for larger rigs are #11-18...". Most sites are reserved, but there are some first come, first served. Check the photos for the listing. The area manager was super helpful. We had reservations in a shaded area that obscured our solar and Starlink. I asked if I could move to #29 which was FCFS, and she said just move your reservation tag. She went into the system and updated everything for us. No mosquitos during our stay in the middle of June. We would definitely camp here again. The best views of Pictured Rocks Nat'l Lakeshore is via Pictured Rocks Cruises. Spend the money; it's worth it! There are some good views at Miner's Castle, Miner's Falls, and Munising Falls - all with fairly short hikes. I'd skip Chapel and Mosiquito Falls as the road is very muddy and rough. Go to Muldoon's Pasties on M28 for the original pastie. If you need groceries, go to Bob's IGA over Family Fare. The prices and service are better.

We had a great stay at Bay Furnace! The beach is nice for collecting rocks and taking a walk. We grabbed a first come first serve site - I’m thankful they have them! It felt a bit competitive getting one….we sort of had to stalk people who …

It has both! Check out is 2pm i believe and check in at 3. If you want a spot I could def go by 3-4. You can also go on recreation.gov and make a reservation. We were there the weekend of fathers day! Good luck
People come and go everyday but you need to show up earlier on Fridays and Saturdays to have a better chance of getting a site.
More reservable site open up on Friday September 24th, 2021, so chances are improving. Getting there earlier also helps. There are a couple other National Forest campgrounds within 20 mi. that would have openings, too.
Winter.
Yes, once you're on it, it's yours for up to two weeks i believe.
I showed up around 11 am on a sunday, I ran into the owner too, he was driving a little golf cart around. He told us there were 2 spots. 50 was a good lot but 49 you will be stuck in the sun there is only 1 tree.
You can switch to a first come first serve site if its available but you would have to pay the site fee again I believe and no refund on your reservation
Yes, I went camping last weekend and multiple families had pets at their sites.
Just pay the site fee. No other fees or passes required. The annual National Park pass is not accepted...only the Senior Pass or Access Pass, formally known as the Golden Age or Golden Access Pass. The cardholder must occupy the site on which the card is used for and can only be used on one site.
Bay furnace is a beautiful camp ground with plenty of space between sites. They are open and safe for social distance!
877-444-6777 Let me know if you need any help with reserving a site.
The last of our campgrounds close on October 8th. The nightly rate is $20/night.
Campers can go a mile away to the Munising Tourist Park and take showers for a small fee.
No hook ups. Does have black, gray and fresh water station and fresh water spigots thru out campground
Try Au Train grocery they have some rooms for a good price.
Not really. We used the lake for years. Now we bought a shower pump you put in a pail and heat water in a 5 Gallon pail works well! Shower bags didn't cut it. We also got a pop up shower for it so can do more than just hair.
The government shutdown has ended for now time will tell what will happen
I do think they close but may be open into October. Should say on the web site.
No on atvs and golf carts.
Online it was $20 per night plus $5 processing per night for reservation sites
No showers ,vault toilets, the Munising tourist camp back to the east a couple miles has showers
Absolutely! Spent a week there with my dog and never had an issue. The bugs were bad. Make sure your pups have flea and tick meds, and hopefully something that repels mosquitoes.
It's rustic. I had never stayed at a rustic campground before, but I really loved Bay Furnace and will continue going back every time we're planning a trip in that area!
My family and I go there twice a year. Sites 6 through about 20 are furthest from the highway. But no sites are really all that close to the highway. Sites about 6 through 10 are closest to and/or on the water. These sites are very hard to get. You need to reserve very early. I am sure you will enjoy it there.
Since this is a self check in campground you can arrive at any time. However this can be a busy campground so there may not be any sites available.
So if we have three family's and we all have dog is that ok and can we be on the water
