A popular place to come to see the sunset and be seen. This restaurant offers a view for a price. Many come just for the view and drinks. The food will satisfy but nothing innovative here. Equal amount of seating indoors and outdoors. Outdoor seating area heated with propane heaters. Reservations are recommended.

Beautiful, scenic bar overlooking cliffside. Perfect stop to appreciate the panoramic breathtaking views

2022 and a restaurant in the middle of nowhere with an outside deck won’t let us dine because we have a small dog. They didn’t even let us order take away.

Terrible food. Was embarrassing how much we paid for two cocktails and some tomatoes and cheese. Do not waste your money.

Highway 1 is open without restrictions both from the north and south between Carmel and Cambria. All 2017 winter related road closure areas have been repaired and highway is open.
Yes but be ready to grap a drink at the bar then kick back outside for 40 minutes.
There is parking, but you have to climb some stairs.
They don't take any reservations. But once you're there you barely wait for a table.
HI, Lezlie, in general, the lunch entrees are lower priced than the dinner entrees, though entrees, appetizers, desserts, and beverages that are served at both lunch and dinner are priced at same levels. Current pricing and offerings can be found on our web site: www.nepenthe.com . Thank you for your inquiry.
Hello, how can I reserve a table for dinner? Thank you
Yes
Pets are not allowed in any of the food and beverage seating areas, inside or outside.
We were there a few weeks ago. We hiked up the trail and walked on highway 1 to Nepenthe. Ranger had info regarding where to park and where trail starts. There is also a shuttle that you can take to Nepenthe once you hike up the trail and reach highway 1.
You can drive up to the handicap lot. If you don't have a handicap permit you can drop off.
Yes from 1130 to 10
I would go to one of the beaches.
No reservations taken! Put your name on the list and go have a coffee and take in the view right above the gift shop!
Yes. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait to be seated to make an order, rather than walking up to the bar.
Mimi, thanks for checking. We do not sell gift cards, rather we sell paper gift certificates, which do not have an expiration date - they are available for sale at www.nepenthe.com. With respect to seating, all of our seating is socially distanced per CDC, CDPH, and Monterey County Health Department guidelines, with current indoor occupancy set at no more than 50%.
We follow CDC, California Department of Public Health, and Monterey County Health Department COVID-19 guidelines, including pre-shift self-attestations by employees to ensure they do not come to work with COVID-19 symptoms, socially distanced seating, sanitization of work and dining areas, required postings of COVID-19 advisory information, required face coverings of guests and staff, etc.
Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate pets in any of our dining areas. Thank you for your inquiry. Previous post by a Local Guide referencing past sightings of dogs may have been referring to Service Animals.
Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, gift certificates can be purchased over the phone, simply call 831.667.2345 and ask for a supervisor to assist you with a gift certificate purchase. Regards.
Really depends on the time you go there I guess, we were with 4 on a weekday and got seated right away, I'd go for two days in advance.
Nepenthe is located 28 miles south of Carmel on the west side of Highway 1. Detailed driving directions can be found at www.nepenthe.com . Thanks for your interest and to the rest of the Google community for helping out with answering this question. Enjoy your drive, it is one of the most beautiful in the world. As you are driving from Los Angeles, Nepenthe is 60 miles north of the Hearst Castle at San Simeon, from that point, you can expect a 1 hour and 30 minute to 1 hour and 45 minute drive, depending on traffic levels.
I would call the restaurant to inquire.
Yes. 11:30am to 4:30pm for lunch only. They are closed for dinner.
Luna, Nepenthe will be open on December 25, serving lunch from 11:30 AM until 4:30 PM, with the bar and dining room then closing at 5:00 PM. We will not be open that evening for dinner service. The Cafe Kevah will be open from 9:00 AM until 3:30 PM, weather permitting. The Phoenix Shop will be open from 10:30 AM until 5:00 PM. All operations will resume normal business hours as of December 26, 2018. Thank you for the inquiry and enjoy your drive.
HWY 1 is supposed to reopen the whole way sometime in July 2018!
No shuttle..but on the way is camp grounds or short day trip from Monterey.
Even if it was, if you're in Big sur and you're hungry, you should go there. What kind of question is that anyway?
Yes, there is a parking lot at the top and pathways to the restaurant.
I think the cafe, open air, would be fine, but I've never seen them in the resto.
If you're OK with a lighter fare, you may be able to order drinks and appetizers at the bar and then sit outside in the front.
