I think it is so cool that this is free. You could definitely spend an entire day here. It houses so many different styles of art and it is huge...three floors full of art theres an outdoor sculpture area. I went on a Saturday and didn't have to wait. Everyone that greeted me and at the desk was very helpful. When you enter you are technically on the second floor. Go check it out!

This is one of St. Louis’ gems and I love that it is free and easily accessible. Whether you’re looking for the perfect date night spot or it’s a rainy day and you need something free and indoors to do - this place is it! The museum is clean and well maintained and the staff are friendly and very informative about the exhibits. Many of the newer exhibits are interactive and accessible to those with visual impairments - creating a safe place for everyone to come and enjoy art. Right outside is the famous Art Hill where you can enjoy the view of Forest Park and have yourself a picnic and enjoy this little slice of St. Louis heaven. It‘a also within walking distance of the St. Louis Zoo - another free and famous St. Louis attraction.

One of the best museums I've visited in St. Louis. It hosts many special works of art, you meet many civilizations around the world. In my opinion, one day is not enough if you want to benefit from its full potential. Personally, I would have liked to find more information and objects related to local creators, current or past.

First-class free museum (except for special exhibits) with something for everyone. Classics or modern, painting or sculpture, this museum has it. We were impressed with the very good, helpful explanations for each piece. Lots of free parking and a stunning view over Forest Park. This is definitely a sampling of "everything art." - From classic paintings, famous artists, and cultural art ranging from a variety of American Indian cultures to Egyptian to the various art revolutions, and even modern art, this museum has it all. Various furniture pieces and fully furnished rooms of historical times give the viewer a sense of what a room would look like during the period of time and location portrayed. It has so much, I could see visiting and focusing on particular aspects and needing to come back multiple times to appreciate all that they have to offer.

Hi Elizabeth. Museum visitors are welcome to sketch in the permanent collection galleries using dry media without easels any time during regular open hours; sketching is not allowed in the Special Exhibition Galleries; sketchers should ask staff to direct them to portable stools for use in the galleries.
Hi Mark. Sunken Cities: Egypt's Lost Worlds closed on September 9.
Some free parking lots & paid parking. Paid parking is more secured. Luggage should be definitely safe in the trunk of your vehicle.
There are multiple Van Gogh pieces In the museum. :)

The museum has free entry. The only costs see for the special exhibits and you can pay for those just inside. They do have a collection at the main entrance for donations if you are inclined. It helps support the museum, acquisitions, staffing costs, etc.

Yes, complimentary wheel chairs are available
I don't think any museum would give a monetary appraisal on any object. You would need to seek out a independent appraiser.
Yes! There are two nearby parking lots and lots of street parking. It might be crowded in the parking lots on a crowded day

Hi Mark. If you are asking about the Neptune with Trident, we do not have any current plans for installation.
You don't submit your own artwork. Unless you are already acknowledged by the art world as a world-class artist.
Hi Juanita. Flora and Fauna in Japanese Art is on view in Gallery 225 through March 24, 2019. If you would like more information on the installation, please visit https://www.slam.org/exhibitions/flora-and-fauna-in-japanese-art/ The Museum opens at 10 am everyday except Monday.
There is a nice restaurant called Panarama that is open for lunch, with an excellent menu, as well as a much more casual lunch/snack option downstairs.
Hi Barry. The Museum does not appraise works of art. It appears there are none on t by the schedule. I am sure a phone call would at least get you a referral to a class.
Hi Mary Jo. The exhibition is always free on Friday, but ticketed events on Fridays may or may not have a cost. Listings for event on our website always show ticket cost, whether it is free or if there is a set price.
There are ups and downs, stairs. But, there are elevators and ramps as well.

The short answer to this question appears to be, no. In 2015 there was a fantastic exhibit of river artists that included George Caleb Bingham's work. However, I cannot find a listing of his work in the SLAM currently. That does not mean that there isn't ANY of his work there ; they just don't seem to be advertising it at the moment. I hope that helps.
Moore's work is easily identifiable. Modern, abstract, existential human forms in bronze
You would need to call the museum.
Yes it is but no flash can be used and be careful not to step in or over the tape on the floor in front of the exhibits...they're there to keep people from getting too close and touching the artifacts...and there's guards everywhere to remind you!! It's a free way to spend the afternoon and so many interesting things to see!! Have fun!! Sincerely, Karla Richardson
