The museum has free entry. The only costs see for the special exhibits and you can pay for those just inside. They do have a collection at the main entrance for donations if you are inclined. It helps support the museum, acquisitions, staffing costs, etc.

If it is free you should be able to just go to the exhibit, the ticket sales in front of the exhibit should just let you in

Get there early. If you are going for Sunken Treasures it is worth the wait.

Hi Barbara! Glad to see you are interested in tickets for the Special Exhibition: Sunken Cities! The museum is free to the public but the Special Exhibition has an admission price EXCEPT on Friday and you already know that. The best way to get these free tickets are to arrive at 10am when the doors open at either entrance. There is usually a line so be prepared for that. You will see where the line leads to to get these tickets. The times the tickets are assigned depend on how many people show up. So it is possible to get a time an hour or two from opening. If you order these through the SLAM website, there is a $3 convenience fee. Hope this helps!
