Good fun and the owner was incredible with our kids. You will definitely want clothes you don’t mind getting filthy, good gloves, a good shovel (not a small gardening shovel but a real one), and a bucket for your finds. You can find some great stuff!

Overall impression: adults loved it, kids enjoyed playing in the mud and creek! More physical than we anticipated but definitely want to go back. We planned a whole day trip, bought a ton of supplies, and watched a ton of YouTube videos. Thank goodness we did! The videos helped a lot. It was pretty easy to get to (take suber rd) and even though there were a ton of people it didn’t feel crowded. When we pulled in there was someone patrolling the parking lot for entry instead of an office or kiosk. He was incredibly, astoundingly rude including physically pushing my daughter out of the way when the car next to us adjusted parking (she was not in danger). After that though everything was awesome! We found a ton of smaller clusters, clear and milky quartz, and smoky quartz. To make sure we “got our moneys worth” I grabbed an absolute wagon full of quartz to line our garden beds 😆 Heads up: - you might not find giant things, but everything is still super cool - you can’t leave once you get there (dude was real aggro about it too) - take plenty of water - baby wipes were a lifesaver with the kids - take a big shovel and little shovels/spades - picnic facilities are nice - port-a-potty was vile - make sure to look on the ground! We found most of our coolest stuff right on the surface!!

I had the time of my life here! Me and the family enjoyed this experience together. We had so much fun we went back the next day!! We found so many crystals, stones, and geodes. Can't wait to go back!!!

Took a day break and drove up. Was a great time. The guy Bob tells you all about the place and where you can find different things. We had no idea what we were looking for but had a great time. Got home and found we had a lot of good …

Yes. Dirt roads but quite easy to find.
Bill opens the gate at 9 til dark. Gate stays open when people are there camping-People can camp for free. $20 a person per day discounts for seniors & kids. To my knowledge they are only closed a select few days a year if that.
Glad you had a good time
Yes, we brought tools and a cooler. They have picnic tables to eat at that are in a shaded area where you park. Would highly recommend bringing a wagon. Next time I plan to bring mine!
$20/day for adults, open 365 days/year. Gate opens at 9, closes at 5.
$20 pre Adult $10 per child under 15. There is a very nice older gentleman that sits near the container in the parking area that's who you pay and listen to what he has to say cuz he will tell you where you can find everything that got and we're getting to stay away from so you don't get hurt very knowledgeable and very nice you have a great time
When you pull in, go straight past the large hole, then go up the small Hill and down the steep slope. There are tons of crystals and amazing rocks down there. Have fun!!!!!
Bbring screw driver shovel bucket water and since it's first time dig in the piles u do find nice things there and just look on line for public mines there is a lot around there
Amethyst is fairly difficult to find. I dug there an entire day and found only one tiny point of amethyst with only the faintest purple. It's very difficult to tell on-site whether you've found amethyst or smoky. That being said, while I was there a 6th grader found an amethyst cluster almost as big around as a volleyball, just one hill over from where I was digging. The rockhounds there estimated it was worth upwards of $1000. So the amethyst is *definitely* there, you just have to work pretty hard for it.
There are videos on YouTube you can watch that tells more about the mine.
Absolutely. They are EVERYWHERE. We've been 3 times now and left with a full car load every time, all from easy surface collecting.
Fees Adult>..18+…….$20 Teen>…13-17…..$10 Senior>.65+…….$10 Child>..12&under..$5 6 & under are free Discounts: Veteran $15 It was $25 and worth it. My girlfriend and I went during July a couple of years ago and it WAS HOT AND GRITTY. We enjoyed the work. But there were so many different rock it was really neat. One pit druzi another smokey. I found a yellow phantom cluster or a quartz cluster with yellow quartz inclusions. She found an amethyst nice piece, not jewel far from it but a nice collectible within the first 15 minutes. We have buckets of skeletal and druzi and other cluster types . Have fun
I would email the owner. It an older gentleman that runs it by himself. Place is awesome
You can take any rocks that you find with you
You can cone and go they have food and rest area out by car love this place
For me, The best tool is a long heavy duty screwdriver, perhaps a garden trowel. Unless you really want to get hardcore, picks, shovels are a lot of work. Bring work gloves to avoid blisters, sunscreen, hat (or beach umbrella works well), rock collection bag or tote, towels, fluids.
Never heard of it sorry
Iron out works great! You can buy liquid form or you can get the powder version and mix it yourself. Soak it overnight. Use toothbrushes or anything with tough bristles to get anything loose off first. You can find Iron out in just about any plumbing section of a store.
Yes you can as long as the caretaker is there you can get in. If he's not there call the number on the website and he will show up. He lives on the same road
Not to hard... Just don't forget bring a water to wash them... Good luck! 😀
Yes just very muddy but it's great collecting in the rain
No they are different mines.
On Google maps, type in the address below, from your location. It will give you the directions. Thanks for asking! Happy holidays Diamond Hill mine 99 diamond mine road Abbeville, South Carolina 29620
:-) cute. This place is NOT salted. When you find a stone , no one else can take the credit. Have fun!
It's about 20/30 minutes from Anderson. Where would you be coming from? And if the kids love dirt and rocks, they will love it! Just make sure to take plenty of food and drink!
The Last time I was there a few months ago it was $20 each. Make sure you take plenty of whatever keeps you hydrated :) If you have never been, just a heads up you're going to be out in the country. Not to much nearby. Take atleast a 5Gallon bucket to put your finds in. And of course your tools. lol. And your going to get filthy! But it's well worth it! One of My most favorite places to Dig!
Yes, Great place for quartz points, druzy and sometimes you get lucky and find amethyst. Be prepared to get dirty. Only amenities is a porta potty
The website says the camping is currently closed. Once it opens back up then yes you can camp
Yes own equipment i.e. shovels buckets water no to vaccine and I didn't see any campers when I was there this Sunday but you can email them and they will answer fairly quick
Yes, there was a couple there with a puppy, he was so well behaved and helped with the digging.
I believe they open everyday at 9 am
I am not sure they dig 'new dirt' on any schedule, just when the mood strikes. As of this past weekend they had not. Don't know about gold but some of the best specimens I found were in the creek.
No but that would be awesome!!! Repost for sure if you find out.
Abbeville about 10 to 15 mins away, the 1st one you come to has a gas station on the property, it's a tweaker dump. Go another mile or so and on the left is a much nicer place for just about the same price.
You can always wear a mask! It's pretty spread out and independent there!
They have an out house to located in the woods on too if the mine no rolls of to though so definitely bring you own
I'm 59. I have been twice in the rain and twice in the sun. If its dry, it's easy to brush yourself off. If its muddy, 3 showers and you'll still find mud somewhere lol.
If you practice proper safety and use it away from the mines I'm sure you could use it. The things that aren't allowed are the usual, no firearms, drugs, or any other illegal materials
This mine is not seeded. There is an unnatural ridge that is immediately to your left when you come in the gates, that ridge is sifted overburden and that is the only part to avoid when digging. I've been there twice in the last week, five times this year, and it's always worth it. Not the best on sunny days above 80, especially for kids under 8, because it is work to find crystals and they just lose interest and energy, but I took my 8yr old on a hot day last year and she didn't dig very long but she did help me the whole time and we came home with probably 20lb or rock that was all crystal. Don't go expecting to find specimens like you see online but more with the expectation of finding crystal if you work for it, and ask other diggers if they've had luck, ask staff where to dig, its a very friendly place.
No electric or running water
Yes , dogs are allowed..we found some good rocks Saturday...have fun
Yes
Yes
I'm not sure if it would accommodate it there is no hookups there you could look up rvparks near there and drive your POV there best time to get to the mine early as possible bring something to eat and drink and tools and 5 gal buckets for your rocks
bring your own equipment. shovel, pick, water to drink. And something to put your finds in. I would also bring something to sit on because if it has rained you will have a wet bottom. I don't know if they provide camping what are the cost of it the be prepared for something to eat or drink for your long dig cuz it is a ways to a store.
This movie showing near to collect the money first thing in the morning pets are you get to dig then you sign the piece of paper so that you can have the rules and regulations
cash only.
Nope, what you can carry you can keep.
Shovel, umbrella for sure on most days. Strong hand tools/Garden tools I even use screwdrivers/knives wire or hard plastic brushes. Alot of times I'll leave the mud on them so no damage in transport. I carry a backpack with all my stuff & cloths to wrap my really good ones in
Bring tools from home. Shovel, buckets, wagon, gloves, bug spray, etc. Common gigging tools. Be prepared to get in the trenches and get dirty so old clothes are a must.
They are open every day.
The mine is about 200 miles northwest of Charleston, about 3 and a half hours by car.
We used our Google maps directions, would been much harder without it. Didn't get lost , took us right there.
It's 20 dollars to dig until dusk. Cowboy will usually come to you when you pull in. Enjoy!
Mostly what you find are quartz clusters. Some are amethyst, smokey, clear or milky. Possibly other gem stones but these are the most common. The man in charge will explain what is where. I had the best luck in the washouts.
