Officers Gibson and Breslin came out to release a copperhead that got caught in plastic fencing. Excellent work and everyone is happy, though the s are doesn't probably realize how lucky he was. Thank you, officers, for coming on Labor Day and making sure no one was hurt!!

You can also read through our adoption process so you are ready to go come adoption day! We are also hosting a "Cats 101" workshop later this month to help new cat owners prepare for welcoming a cat to their family. Hi Kevin! Our volunteers do receive T-shirts after completing their first month of volunteering! Our Friends of Loudoun County Animal Services group sometimes has T-shirts for sale. https://www.flcas.org/ We hope that helps answer your question!
The adoption fees are listed on the website.
Hi Sharon! We are happy to accept gently used or new leashes. Most of our dogs are 40+lbs so larger coats will be put to use as well! Thank you for thinking of the animals at LCAS.
Hi there! We are open for adoptions from 11am-6pm, Monday - Sunday! Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian but yes! They are welcome to come visit. We also host a variety of programs for children at the shelter, learn more and sign up on our website: www.loudoun.gov/animals
Hi Janai! We are happy to accept blankets. We do not really use sheets at the shelter. Thank you for thinking of us and the animals!
Hi Ethan! Our volunteers help with everything! They help with admin work, events, our pet pantry, walking dogs, cat enrichment, daily cleaning and more! We are currently not on boarding volunteers but keep an eye on our website to see when our next volunteer info session will be!

Hi Hoslan - we hire through Loudoun County! Our job openings are listed on the Prospective Employee site as they become available. You can visit the page here: https://www.loudoun.gov/1057/Prospective-Employees
Hi Janet! We are currently accepting donations of towels - there is a bin in front of the shelter for donation drop offs. Thank you for thinking of us!
Hi Linda! Thank you for thinking of us - yes we are! We can accept towels & blankets, we cannot accept comforters, pillows or sheets. Thank you again!
My opinion: you can donate used items for use at the shelter. So this means you can probably donate them to the shelter as long as you have thoroughly washed them and the items are in good condition (e.g. not torn, shredded, or falling apart). After you donate, they will likely do a final inspection on their own.
Hi Sergio - We host low cost rabies vaccination and microchipping clinics throughout the year. You can learn more about them on our website. https://www.loudoun.gov/3906/Community-Rabies-Vaccination-Clinic If you have questions about an animal you adopted from us we are happy to help! Give us a call at 703-777-0406. All cats adopted from us are spay/neutered, microchipped and give age appropriate vaccinations!
Hi Sharon - kittens (under 7 months) are $150. You can find our complete price lists on our website here: https://www.loudoun.gov/536/Process-Fees
Yep!
Hi Maria - We are lucky to be in a position where we do not have to put healthy, friendly animals to sleep because they have been here too long, and we have not run out of kennel space in recent years. But we would not put an animal up for adoption if we believed that they were unsafe or suffering. “No-Kill” is generally considered met when a shelter achieves a goal of a 90% live release rate. Although we have been over 90% for over three years, we have minimal control over what animals come in the door. If we receive 5 feral cats who have been hit by cars, and in that same month, a cat delivers a litter of kittens that fail to thrive, our numbers may drop below 90%. If we receive a large number of dogs with unsafe behavior or a history of bites, our numbers may drop below 90%. Our focus cannot be on the numbers. Our focus must be on treating every animal as an individual, recognizing the boundaries of treatment, and saving lives, while protecting public safety.
Hi Ellen - Yes you can! You can visit our website to see who is currently available for adoption. These pages are automatically updated hourly so you can always see who is available. https://www.loudoun.gov/534/Available-Pets
Hi Bonita – Helping keep pets happy and healthy in homes is very important to us. We partner with Loudoun Hunger Relief and the Humane Society of Loudoun County to run the Pet Pantry and provide for this very need. You can pick up a bag of pet food during their food distribution hours. For more information on the program please contact Loudoun Hunger Relief at 703-777-5911.
Hello - we do not offer spay/neuter services at the shelter. You can take a look at the Low Cost Resources flyer on our website to see local options for spay/neuter services. https://www.loudoun.gov/3312/Post-Adoption-Support
I am not sure

Hi Brittany! We do provide rabies vaccinations through our vaccination clinics. You can learn more and see upcoming clinics on our website: https://www.loudoun.gov/3906/Community-Rabies-Vaccination-Clinic Thank you for your interest in LCAS!
The website is www.loudoun.gov/animals
Thank god i found my baby and were together again forever ..im the happiest man alive ..
Absolutely not. Look into a long term house/pet sitter or a benevolent friend.
They are not "no kill" but they do not routinely euthanize.
You can take it to the shelter! They will find a home for it. 👌No problem. I've seen them find homes for pigs before. 😁 If that helps ease your mind.
If you really have an interest in a dog/dogs. The best suggestion is to head on down to the shelter and talk to the shelter as they post and update the site daily/hourly as much as possible. Like Mike said calling for information regarding a particular dog & pricing is the best option. If available I would head down to the shelter asap. Good luck!
Give them a call. I know it used to be easy, but like everything else lawyers got involved and turned it into a liability issue.
I think Harris teeter sells them 7 for $6
I'm thinking early 70's.
Good morning! Thank you for reaching out. We treat every pet as an individual and, in instances of extreme medical or behavioral issues, sometimes humane euthanasia is the kindest option. That said, it is always a last resort. We are dedicated to helping homeless pets in Loudoun County while ensuring we protect the interests and safety of pets and people at all times. Pets at LCAS do not have a "time limit" and, in fact, most dogs are currently adopted within 6 days of arriving at the LCAS animal shelter. That is very fast! Cats currently average around two weeks which is quicker than the national average. LCAS is lucky to be surrounded by a supportive community and it means LCAS has far more resources (tax funding, donations, volunteers, and fosters) to assist shelter pets than many municipal shelters. We welcome visitors during adoption hours. The staff are more than happy to answer questions about the department and any available pets.
You need to go to the web site. Do a search fir Loudoun County Animal Shelter
Virginia law says that pet owners need to provide adequate shelter for companion animals that is “suitable for the species, age, condition, size and type of each animal.” Law states that the shelter must have enough space for each animal, is safe and protects animals from injury, rain, sleet, snow, hail, direct sunlight and the adverse effects of heat or cold. Shelter must also be properly lighted and cleaned. In addition, the shelter must have a solid surface (resting platform, pad, floormat, or similar device) that is large enough for the animal to lie on in a normal manner.
The animals available change as they get adopted out and new ones come in. I believe you can check their website to see animals available for adoption.
If you're trying to find a dog over there I think there's a lady named Amy she's intake coordinator. I will say a lot of times a don't tell the truth about these dogs meaning looking at them for Behavioral issues but they're not really quick to help you get your dog back or to adopt somebody else's dog you just really have to do a lot of digging over there. It's very frustrating. I was trying to adopt out a dog I know my neighbors surrendered. I found them 12 adopters and instead they gave it to a rescue so you really going to do some digging.
They post all available pets on their website!
Start off with calling the shelter. They will give you all the information and appointment time to meet with the correct person and get the right facts about your pup to move the surrender process forward.
