One case I had years ago was found in my favor, but I had to do most of the legwork. A more recent one was not where my insurer wanted to more than double my rates after claiming I caused an accident when it was clearly a mixed fault, and I thought this was more of a slam dunk. If you don't think you are treated fairly by your insurance company, you can turn to the MIA. The problem is it mostly favors the insurance companies. It's not really a regulatory agency. If you don't like the MIA decision, you can request a court hearing, but you have to pay a $50 filing fee. What kind of justice is that?

This is not a government agency. It should be called a private company because they side with insurance companies. Robin please stop doing that. Just be professional

USAA attempted to raise my premiums. The MD Insurance Commissioner's Office requested that USAA justify their increase in premiums on my policy. There were a lot of questions USAA had to answer and they were told to not "cut and paste" their answers. USAA chose not to raise my premiums!! Thank goodness for the MD Insurance Commissioner's office!!

I contacted MD Insurance commission when USAA neglected to send an adjuster to examine the fire damage on my property, then used the vendor as adjuster & the vendor charged USAA for work not done on my property. Also, USAA Had estimate don’t to restore my property and after 10 months no word from USAA about restoration of my property. Mr Frederick from MD Insurance commission did no advocacy for me, the consumer, he basically selected a portion of the complaint regarding poor work by the vendor and after waiting for his intervention from Sept to March, he said poor work by vendor need to be reported to Attorney general. So my property has not been restored and he totally ignored that part of my complaint. Loads of money was paid to the company that didn’t do half of what was claimed but got paid the total amount anyways, whilst me the Insurance premium payer suffer with properly unrestored & no payment to fix it.

In my experience most insurance generally allow 1 week for each driver to make a statement that is recorded of their recollection of accident. I haven't ever experienced what you are describing. As long as the police report clearly states that the other driver is at fault whether the officer witnessed the accident, or there were witnesses on the scene to corroborate your story, or perhaps the other driving admitted fault to the officer who wrote the accident report. The only exception to why the other driver's insurance is waiting to obtain a statement from the policy holder prior to authorizing payment of a rental for you could potentially be because the other driver is denying any fault that cause the accident. Good luck!
The check is always in the mail, don't hold your breath.
The Maryland Insurance Administration regulates Property & Casualty insurance companies, but does not dictate when companies suspend coverage. If you feel that your insurance company is doing something inappropriate I would encourage you to file a complaint with the Insurance Commissioner. You can find out how by going to their website at: insurance.maryland.gov
If you are asking if there is a law in Maryland that requires homeowners to insure their home, there is not; however, if you have a loan or mortgage on your home then the lender will require that you have homeowner's insurance as a condition of the loan. This is part of the loan agreement that you sign with the lender.
Yes. Landlords want to ensure that they won't be liable for damage to your contents in the apartment. Rental insurance is very inexpensive and covers your contents, not the building. Coverage on the building is the landlord's responsibility.

No way is that your fault! I’m MD if you get rear ended it’s NEVER YOUR FAULT. It’s an insurance law in MD. I’ve been rear ended 4x over the years (starting to think I have a target on my car lol) My mom has been an insurance agent for 30yrs in MD. You can switch lanes and go faster/slower, that’s not an excuse for them hitting you from behind. Call your insurance company and let them deal with it
You should file the complaint in the state the policy was issued.
