I've had such a good experince here! Stopped by on a Friday after work and fell in love with a dog. Prior I went through the website saw what was needed to adopt and had my proof I can have a dog in my apt in the works. Which can just be a letter or anything thatbstates you'reallowed. I had to bring the other ppl living with me on Sunday to make sure everyone was on board. Which I like! The adoption application was easy you fill out the app honestly and they go over it with you. That's it. I do recommend asking if there's other apps for the dog/cat your interested in, I asked and they let me know that if someone comes in prepared with everything they can adopt the dog before me. We realized he was too big and asked to see other dogs, they let me see 3 or 4 other dogs and in the end I found the dog for me! Evwryone I encountered was very friendly. I have no complaints. I rather like that they are thorough in the adoption process it ensures you don't have to bring the dog back they are up front with everything about the dog or cat you choose. Will def volunteer! And possibly adopting again✨️

just visited the place for the first time. I will be returning Tuesday to look for a dog in earnest. I cannot recommend another dog shelter as highly as this one. I can't wait to return

Very nice looking shelter for cats and dogs but staff didn't seem friendly at all. I filled out an application to adopt the cutest dog ever despite his special needs! I'm in love with him after meeting a greeting him yesterday. I was interviewed by a girl at the front desk who went through the application with me but it felt more like a job interview. My husband and I don't have any pets or children at home and will love to bring this pup home with us. I think their adoption process makes it very difficult for those trying to adopt and shouldn't take so long. After all these pets need a home! Sadly, this is why so many people decide to buy pets instead of adopting. Edited: 9/14/22 I just called Animal Haven and was just told that the dog I was interested in adopting was already adopted and that they thought my review on Google was very "hurtful" and they do not like that. Then the lady I was speaking to (No need to mention her name because it is not personal for me) said "have a nice day" and hung up. If you are in the process of adopting make sure you write a good review regardless of your experience during your meet and greet with the pet or be emotionally and mentally ready for your application to be rejected. This has been my experience and I don't wish this to anyone else.

I go often to donate linens and towels . They are always friendly and so appreciative of any supplies or help given.

Yes Animal Haven has a volunteer program! You can go on their website for more info
how much to adopt a puppy?
They are generally at capacity with no room for owner surrenders, but you can always call and ask. If they have no space, the city shelter will always accept animals.
No. You have to fill out an application
Uncertain about rabbits here...though a great place to check out the adoptables. A rabbit was recently found and brought to Yonkers Animal Shelter in Yonkers, NY....call them? Otherwise, Sean Casey (google him) may be able to help you.

Im looking for a cute but stay small 🐕
You can apply online. But it's better to go in person. The receptionist is very helpful.
https://www.chewy.com/petcentral/when-can-i-get-my-kitten-tested-for-fiv-felv according to this article 1. FeLV test can be done at any age 2. kitten tested FIV negative should be confirmed again when it turns older ( more than6 month old) but the FIV negative result strongly suggests the kitten is not infected with FIV. so technically both tests can be done at any age. if you are getting a kitten that is younger than 6 month old, you should look for shelters or shops that can provide FIV negative FeLV negative test results. Better be cautious than sorry later. FIV and FeLV test results are not found on their website. It should be a good idea to double check before you commit your time, love and money despite the age of the cat you are adopting. I wish they can be more transparent regarding to this.
It's possible. Depends on the cat and the application being approved.
Linens and toys are donations. Shelters are already full and don’t need your “donations”.
It's an animal shelter, going to their website accurately reflects the animals that are available for adoption. There are adoption fees and applications, so same day take home pets are not likely, but this place is lovely, loving to the animals, and clean and they allow you to meet the animals (no more than 3) before you request adoption
Not sure about cats, but we applied for a puppy and the processing took just one day. Had to make an appointment for pickup and that was quick too.
For canines and felines
Sorry. Animal Haven does not have hamsters. They only have cats and dogs up for adoption.
Closed until Oct 1,2021
Yes, it is called a pet daycare. You can house your pet there for the time needed. A cheaper option is hiring a cat sitter that can provide the cats with food, water, and clean their litter box. If you’re unable to afford either and don’t have a friend that can watch them for you or act as a pet sitter I would suggest surrendering your pets to either the ACC, the ASPCA, Animal Haven or any other nearby rescue. I wish you luck!
I think they would.. please call or email them to confirm.
We do! Please check out the dogs we have available on our website https://animalhaven.org/adopt/dogs/
Yes
No
Take him to this shelter. They are a no kill.
You have to contact them and be willing to give a donation.
No, but if that's a question you need to ask then maybe adopting a dog isn't for you
I found a kitty wondering around and idk what to do with it? Can I bring it in?
They're very busy so you should only go to the shelter if you intend on adopting one of the animals. If you want to work with the animals you can go to their website and sign up to be a volunteer.
Yes. Animal Haven also accepts many types of donations. I believe no fabric with fillings and/or down. They also accept bowls, toys and related products. Food-wise, I am not sure of details but, may accept them too as long as they are un-opened and not close to exp. date. Hope the information is of use.
You will have to call to find out. Or go and check your self .
Can kids also volunteer and if so what are the ages allowed?
It is a shelter, not a pet store. Therefore, you must put in an application. However, it can sometimes be approved the same day.
Fosters are chosen from within the volunteers, so if you'd like to foster then you'd need to sign up and become a volunteer (you can do this on their website.)
Sure. They can use the donation.
Kitten adoption fees are listed on the website as $200 for one or $300 for two. This fee covers spaying/neutering, core vaccines, as well as microchipping
Sorry, you have to be a volunteer to do that.
You should call first, if they're too full then they likely won't take the cat.
Yes definitely
Only cats and dogs right now !
She was adopted about 2 months ago.
Can I have him ?
They are for their current annual cycle, 6 months for bordetella! The adoption fee also includes spay/neuter, pre-existing condition, and microchip.
You can give up a cat to the shelter. They would gladly take it and match it to a new family. Please contact them. If not then contact Best friends pet adoption center just a few blocks away. Good luck.
Awesome! Go for it.
You will need to call the shelter to make an appointment if you need to rehome a dog.
They accept canned cat food that's not expired!
no, have to be at least 18 years old
Call
Not sure if they'll fix a dog that hasn't been adopted from their shelter but I'm sure they'll put you in contact with folks who can help if you call.
