Everyone here was super friendly and helpful. Only issue I had was a VIN verification wasn't done correctly, so it had to be done twice. Otherwise, smooth process for getting registration and ID in order. The option to get in line from the DMV website is a life saver and worked well!

Happy, polite people. It went very fast. Very different from the Southern CA city I live in. Excellent experience in SLO.

Though the process was not seamless and there was a computer glitch that created more steps to my renewal, the DMV employees were great. Clint (window #11 on 9/13/2022), Employee taking photos (9/13/2022), supervisor Cindy & employee at the front desk (9/13) were all extremely personable, polite and helpful! This was a new experience for me at the DMV. It used to be that DMV employees were like the walking dead, but there's been a huge improvement! I appreciate it very much! Great customer service! Now, please just work on making sure your computer systems work properly and streamlining processes. Thanks again!

Getting real ID went well, short line with friendly staff
Thanks! Your review is awaiting moderation.
Yes please make an appointment walk ins are strongly discouraged
The fastest way would be to go to dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/dmv/onlinesvcs/appointment
Yes, however you're gonna want to get there by 6-6:30 at the latest to stand in line. No appointments are available now, last I heard
Yes you can
Yes
As long as you stay inside the building or even with at number they will lock you out.
That would be a question for law enforcement.
No, it just takes less time.
It's been over 6 years. Can I get my license an how much?
On line
No appointment needed but it might save a little time... Thursday afternoon is usually the best time to go in my experience.. You can walk in on any day of the week with out an appointment and take the test! ENJOY YOUR VISIT!
No it's 1st come 1st serve
Get a new email
Visit their website....
Old title filled out. If registration is due you will need to pay that. Also if it hasn't been smog in the last 90 days you will have to do that too.
Look on the website
Go online and schedule from there. There is a specific link to schedule your test.
On your birthday and usually 4 to 6 years as issued. Expiration is in the paperwork they gave you and on your license where it says it will expire on t Your birthday in xxxx
In SLO you do not have to get an appointment. There is a queue outside to check in. You can go to dmv.ca.gov and handle many transactions online. From there for any transaction that can't be done online you can arrange to visit with appt or actually "get in line" for this office. I have used that twice and it assigns you a number and tells you where you are in line. You can also handle simple transactions at AAA if you are a member. If you show up to the queue with a disability you may be moved up in line. Overall I recommend trying to do your transaction online. Get in line only works from 9am to 430pm so get online during that time. You will still have to wait in line that way but you can run errands while waiting.
For the learners permit, you only need to take the written test. If you are ready to do the License test, it would have to be after you met the hours needed for practical driving, as well as comprehensible knowledge to take the written test. They will also have you take the driving test once previous criteria is met.
You're allowed to drive to and from a place of work or residence only. Usually it's due to having done something dumb, like driving while intoxicated. Sad, but true. And the price one pays for being foolish.
Yes I believe so
Should be able to online. Last thing you want to do is stand in line.

Current registration, title, proof of insurance. Go see.DMV.ca.gov for more information.
Possibly who ever is in charge of his property(wife?) Could add you to title and remove his could be easier. ? This also works for homes or anything you want to leave someone.
Call them to secure an appointment date and time for you, that way you won't have to wait in line.
I am asking for a neighbor who has no access to a computer. Can you direct me as to what she has to do.
You can set an appointment online
I would check on the DMV website for that information.
I was able to get in without appointment for that in about 10 min wait. Make sure you have your needed documents!
Last I heard appointments were not available online. I was there at dmv last week and had to start standing in line at 630 am (I was already eighth in line) 😬 You can try calling to ask, but you may be on hold for a couple hours like I was. Good luck!
Go online https://www.californiadriveredcourse.com/ca-dmv-permit/
If you consider a walk in waiting in line for 3 hours then yes you may
You can't. You have to get in line. Bye... Contrary to what they say, they are not open on Saturdays. Do the application on line first or they won't let you proceed even if you wait in line.
Go the dmv and wait in line someone will come ask you what your there for and they will tell you the process
Yes you can
Yes you can get inside, the lines are sometimes long but it moves at a good pace
Yes you can wait in line. Go early to avoid getting send home because DMV will stop letting people inside at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday is not good day to visit DMV.
All people that had appts. Scheduled after march 15 where rescheduled with priority....meaning when dmv reopened they served them first and will not take new appts. Until they have been serviced first....sucks I know.....best thing to do is do as much as you can online then go early and get in line.
You can try....but try online at www.dmv.ca.gov.org
Walk- ins before 3 pm. They'll tell you while you're in line to go "online". Let them know you couldn't! I did, and they let me inside.
Yes. They weed out the ones that can do it by mail while you wait in line.
Go to ca.dmv.gov
All kinds g
You can do a lot online. Fill out papers submit forms and print confirmation and when you go go to appointment line I went on Tuesday and they where not allowing much people in unless you have the confirmation
You can make an appointment or I believe you can go online and renew it. DMV.CA.GOV
I don't think that's something that can be shared with future CDL applicants because that's a form of cheating.
You call and make an appointment, or go on line
It depends how early you get there and what your meeting done I get there an hour before they open and I'm within live people from the first in line and I'm always seen within 20 minutes if you go there in the end of the day you got a lot of people waiting
DMV Office - San Luis Obispo https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/fo/offices/fieldoffice?number=547
Come to DMV and get it
Bring your documents and ask for your needs at DMV
According to the DMV you have 10 days from the date of the transfer of ownership to submit the necessary paperwork and pay the fees.
As I understand it, a pink slip is proof of what is called "Clear title ".
yes
Thanks Jackie...so I am assuming since I have a drivers license number on file etc., they won't need other proof...
The DMV doesn't do anything about a lost drivers license unfortunately. You would need to contact local police to file a report.
Technically you can renew at any time but without the renewal they won't waive the fee.
Steven is correct. The license takes about 2-4 weeks to come in the mail. Only photos they give is for a permit.
No. And an online appointment takes months. And if they spell your name wrong on a new license, it will take you 2 1/2 hours to repeat what took you 2 hrs the first time.
Absolutely We are able to clarify your question in person at the office Please come over and enjoy !!!
Go on their website and locate the city where you want an appointment. Follow the prompts. May be several weeks out
You only have to carry the Pin-Slip signed by the person who sold you the car, lero remember that you must have the registration and the smog certificate Please come over and enjoy !!!
I would recommend making an appointment. I've had to wait 2+ hours before.
Did you give DMV a out of state title or MCO from the manufacturer? Did you ever have a CA title for the trailer? If a CA title was issued complete at REG 227 sections 1/3 if not then a REG 4017 side A only and pay the fee.
Yes you can file a release of liability online
As far as I know there is no individual charge for the written test. It is included in the charge to get a new drivers license. This charge will vary depending on which type of license you are trying to get.
Absolutely not You can't do that at the DMV But you can find it from different way Please come over and enjoy
All of the above suggestions are correct although I would definitely recommend filling out the application from your own computer as this will save you quite a bit of time in the dmv itself. I would also recommend getting a "Real" drivers license as you will be required to do it anyway by 2020. The dmv website will tell you which documents you will need to bring with you and the fee is the same.
Placard should be mailed within 30 days via us mail with holiday mail give it an extra day week ,as always with the DMV patience is a virtue!
Looks like everyone covered all the details. Do fill out the application online if you can because it will save you the time while actually at the dmv. Everyone will have to get a "Real" drivers license by 2020 so if you can provide the necessary proof of identity now you might as well get it done now.
Go into DMV.ca.gov to find out more about real I'd. Basically you need a birth document/legal presence paperwork which is certified then a social security document and then a residency document. The specifics are in the website
Absolutely You can filled out a special questionnaire in person and request your reposition Please come over and enjoy
If you search "vanity plate" on the dmv website, you will be able to find forms to apply for them which you bring to the dmv branch, which is great if you have a DMV appointment. Alternatively, since the wait at the DMV will be ridiculous, you may not need to be so proactive, so you can show up, tell them what you want to do, and theyll give you the super fun forms, designed to make you question your "clearly print" skills, and you'll finish with plenty of time to play angry birds, or candy crush, or pokemon, or stare at the wig in front of you. Even if you have to start over your form roughly 4 times because you keep neglecting that you need to "clearly print" your last name first, then your first name, you'll still have time left to question if all of this time was worth never knowing of the person behind you understands the inside joke your custom license plate represents.
I believe so yes
You can make an appointment by either calling the DMV on the phone or you can go to their website www.dmv.ca.gov. At the website you can create an account and then you can schedule an appointment as well as many other things.
Yes it's all California county does not matter any dmv will work
Make sure you update your address with the DMV and of course forward all your mail to your new address. And they won't actually mail you your plates. You'll get a notice in the mail that it's ready to be picked up. You'll exchange your regular plates for your new personalized ones.
Yes anywhere I the state
Are they asking vehicle verification?
You need to fill out an Application for Duplicate Title Form. It's a REG 227. Fill out sections 1-3. Google the form number, it'll come up. Take it to DMV and it'll be $20. POA won't work on that form to obtain a duplicate as she's NOT the registered owner.
It helps, but not necessarily.
No. Debit cards are accepted however.
Mid afternoon is best.
The SLO DMV does not have a public fax number. You may want to call them and enquire about it.
Yes
Yes. Both have to sign the title to accept ownership.
They hand you your permit there.
28$, no proof of who you are necessary.
First make sure there aren't two of them stuck together on the back... If you do need a new plain plate you have to bring in the plate you have, its 21$.
If it has a license plate, yes. I f not, it's thru the Department of Housing, near the DMV in SLO.
No, you need to come in and have them print a new one before the test.
You should get it 60 days beforehand.
Don't buy it. Or at least find how much it will be, go in and ask with the plate or vin #.
No they are closed on Saturdays at least the one In SLO. I just seen the hours of business on the page it gives you the address, city, and phone number. You can also see the hours of business on first page. Hope that helps?
