Sketchy & rude. Was told that I’d have to pay $180 to surrender 2 strays found in Platte county. They worked it out on the phone with Platte County animal control. Good to go? Nope. As soon as they hung up, told me I still had to pay as they couldn’t guarantee Platte County would pay the bill or they’d file an abandonment charge for dogs that weren’t mine. Said I’d see a court summons. Double dipping? Extortion? Someone should audit. Finally just left the dogs. Sketchy…

I was grateful for the bag of cat food I was given but I had called before I went to make sure. I was told I could pick up a bag of food and a bag of liter, but when I got there I was told no liter. That's why I called first because liter was needed the most. I don't have funds this month for these things so therefore limited gas also. So even tho I got food, and I appreciate that, I wouldn't have wasted my gas for just the one item.

Too short staffed to respond to call of a pit bull acting aggressive to us by our property. Apparently, he thinks he owns OUR YARD as well as the rental he’s staying in. We got in the house safely but it seems animal control is advocating for the animals’ welfare. Maybe, I should have mentioned that while he was barking at us and advancing on us that maybe he seemed “thirsty” or “hungry”. I am 65 and have to use a cane and have been terrorized by dogs previously. Now, I am afraid to sit on my own porch.

Great experience.

Come take at look at the available animals and put in an application to adopt.
You can fill out an application for a specific animal using this website. Adoption order goes by the first approved application (shelter staff will call you if you are next in line or the first approved applicant), each applicant gets 24 hours to adopt, then it moves onto the next applicant. If you fill out an application and want to know what applicant number you are, you can always call down to the shelter to ask: 816-271-4877. http://www.stjoemo.info/FormCenter/Health-Department-4/Animal-Control-and-Rescue-Adoption-Appli-41
I used to have miniature goats and was told they had to be a certain footage from the dwelling. It's a city statue
There is a leash law in St Joe which means yes there is one at the apartments
Give them a good old fashioned phone call. Or go down there and actually meet the animal you're wanting to adopt.
Sorry I just got on here and seen this did you find your baby!!!!
Yes not sure what www. It is but ok google brought it right up for me
I dont think they have the food yo give, they are at full capacity. Post on a free group someone will help I'm sure of it
The shelter
$10 if you live inside city limits $40 if you live outside city limits
Once they gradate from the program, they will be available for adoption like any other dog. It will just list that the animal is a graduate from the program. If you want to adopt it before then, you'll likely need to go through the regular adoption process and just wait until the animal is done with the program. It's for everyone's best interest.
There is not a vet on staff so they do euthanize for the public. They do offer cremation services for a fee based on the weight of the animal.
I think I saw a couple small breeds down there when I went and picked out my new dog
I'm pretty sure they'll take any animal
I personally found an animal on their website, filled out the online forms and set up an appointment. They were available the next day and I filled it out late the day prior.
The shelter only does licensing for dogs who have been adopted from the shelter. Please contact any of the vets in town for this (Countryside, Twin Pines, Animal Tales, East Hills Vet, Green Hills, or All Creatures).
If you go to their website, there's an area for stray dogs, and all the dogs they have.
At times they have different pets check the website for availability
Check http://stjoemo.animalshelternet.com/ under stray and adoptable
Check http://stjoemo.animalshelternet.com/ under adopt and stray
Around $110 for everything. Cheaper if the dog is already spayed or neutered
Yes u can take in and they will adopt her out.
Why would you do such a thing? That's horrible
No. They can be captured by you and taken to the shelter free of charge during regular business hours if you live in the city limits of St Joe

No it is not a no kill shelter, they try their best to re-home the animals or send them to a new shelter, but if they can't then they do euthanize them.....
Please call the shelter at 816-271-4877
Hi Jacob. The shelter doesn't coordinate spay and neuters of animals outside of the St. Joseph Animal Shelter, except for the Animal Kind low-income program. Is this what you are referring to? St. Joseph Animal Control and Rescue is partnered with a grant program called Animal Kind and a local Veterinarian to provide these services. The copay will vary based on income and is a minimum of $20, unless otherwise approved. The remainder of the costs is covered by the Animal Kind program and made possible by a participating veterinarian that offer these discounted rates to the program. Please contact Jennifer Lockwood, the Humane Educator at the animal shelter, at 816-271-5363 to fill out an application by phone or stop by the shelter during normal business hours. Please be prepared to show proof of income. You will have to arrange transportation to and from the local veterinarian.
Currently, you must be 18 years old to physically handle the animals. Here's the application to fill out if you meet that age requirement: https://www.petforu.com/volunteer-application/. The shelter staff is looking at starting a youth program, though so stay tuned! If you know of someone looking to help at the shelter that is younger then 18, there are other opportunities for helping that don't involved handling the animals, so have them call down to the shelter and ask for the humane educator (Jenni Lockwood): 816-271-4877. Thanks!
What are you asking? How does BBQ have anything to do with the humane society? If you are asking about applying at the shelter. Go to their website to contact them directly or to fill out a volunteer application. If you are looking for paid work, check the city's government job website. It has animal control jobs listed. I would also suggest retyping your question. It really doesn't make sense.
The best way to find out is to call down and speak to the staff directly: 816-271-4877. Like Kim said, the shelter does occasionally get bunnies, but they are not consistently down there. Good luck!
Probably. However they will charge you for the time spent. You should call them after 1:00 pm they will let you know if he is still there and what the cost will be.
No.
Hi Eldred. James is right, St. Joseph Animal Control & Rescue is an adoption facility, not a groomer, so you can't just bring your own animal by for a groom and nail trim. Some of the dogs housed at our facility get baths and nail trims while they are here, though.
Yes, the shelter takes in adoptable cats and dogs. You will need your ID and $10 (if you live inside the city) to surrender the cat.
We do occasionally get small breed puppies at the shelter Please keep an eye on our facebook page or website to see what we have available for adoption: https://www.facebook.com/pg/FriendsoftheAnimalShelterStJoe/photos/?tab=album&album_id=10153816990911556 http://stjoemo.animalshelternet.com/adoption_search_a.cfm
Any shot or medical records would be a great so they know what's been done. There is a fee because they have to provide care but I'm not sure what it is.
If your daughter lives in the city, she can just call Animal Control to come pick up the dog: 816-271-4877. If you would like to bring it down to the shelter you can though, you'll just need ID. If this is a cat, you'll have to bring it in as animal control doesn't pick up cats. Thank you!
The Friends of the Shelter does take volunteers, but you will have to go through an orientation. If you are interested, please fill out the following application and someone will be in touch soon: https://www.petforu.com/volunteer-application/
I know if you take your dogs to the animal shelter off of the stockyards by the water plant. They can take them in and find good homes for them. That place is amazing of giving great care to the animals being brought in to them and the ones they bring in off the streets.
Hello! If the dog that you surrendered is still available (hasn't been adopted or placed on hold for adoption) you would be able to get your dog back. There may be fees that apply depending on the circumstances. The best thing to do would be to call the kennel supervisor, Theresa at 816-271-5333 to discus your situation.
I don't see Leo on our adoptable pets page, so he must have been adopted or redeemed by his owners already: http://stjoemo.animalshelternet.com/adoption_search_a.cfm
Yes, you sure can. You'll need your ID and $10 to surrender your dog. Puppies generally get adopted pretty quick from the shelter. If you have specific questions about surrendering your dog, feel free to call the shelter at 816-271-4877. Here are the hours you can bring her by: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 1-5:30 p.m. Wednesday 1-6:30 p.m. Friday 1-4:30 p.m. Saturday 1-4:30 p.m.
Hello, please call the shelter to speak with the staff at 816-271-4877. Thank you!
No
Hi Debi, sorry for the delay in responding! Generally dogs are between $90-130, but this year due a Petsmart grant that covers spays/neuters adoption fees are reduced by $40-90 depending on the size of the dog. Also, if you adopt a dog that has already been fixed, microchipped and/or vaccinated, the adoption fee would also be reduced. Thanks for your interest in adopting!
5909 Corporate Dr. in St. Joseph!
Hi Nakia. Cheyenne is correct, there is a range depending on whether you live in the city and have to pay for city license, but in generally kittens are $72.50. See the adoption fees on this website: http://www.stjoemo.info/DocumentCenter/View/671
Hello, you can keep an eye on our website at http://stjoemo.animalshelternet.com/ to watch for Yorkie puppies. Yorkies are extremely popular and it is extremely uncommon for us to get a puppy. Best of luck on your search!
Look at stjoemo.animalshelter.net. The shelter animals and strays have ID #s u can use for the adoption application. If you do not see the animal, the animal is not available. Call the shelter for further help. The Friends of the Animal Shelter facebook page is updated twice a week by volunteers.
Hi David. We're very sorry to hear about the passing of your dog. Yes, the shelter is always accepting donations of food. You can drop off the donation during any of these days/times: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 1:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Wednesday 1:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Friday 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Saturday 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Thank you!
Hi Julie. Please call the shelter on Monday to find out from the staff: 816-271-4877. Thanks!
You can view our adoptable pets here. We are always getting new animals in (this website is updated immediately once a new animal comes into the shelter), so please keep an eye on this page: http://stjoemo.animalshelternet.com/adoption_search_a.cfm
Hello, I'm not sure how long ago this question was asked, but you can always call down to the shelter to ask questions about specific animals: 816-271-4877. Thanks!

Thanks for your interest in fostering! Please call the shelter and they will help you get started: 816-271-2877.
Hello, I'm not sure how long ago this question was asked, but you can always call down to the shelter to ask these types of questions: 816-271-4877. Thanks!
The shelter does loan out humane traps. Please stop by or call for more info: 816-271-4877. Thanks!
If you mean your own cat, the shelter does not have a vet on staff, so we don't spay and neuter at the shelter. However, we do offer assistance for low income individuals: https://www.petforu.com/low-cost-spayneuter/ If you mean the cost as part of the adoption fee for our adoptable cats, because of a Petsmart grant, all spay/neuter fees are waived on our adoptable cats so that means their adoption fees are greatly reduced!
Yes, quite often actually. Please keep an eye on our website as we post adoptable dogs on here: http://stjoemo.animalshelternet.com/adoption_search_a.cfm
Do you have earplugs?
